So if youre not paying them to legalize your Skyline, dont bother, you'll lose way more cash than you think.
My friend has spent (so far) to try and get his VIN and all that legalized is around the ball park of 80K (price including the purchase of the GTR)
For 20K more, you can get an Audi R8... You can just save 4 years of bonds to make that up.
Since there is no insurance company that will cover Skylines, you need to have a bond on the car. The cheapest bond I've ever heard of (and will not allow you to drive the car around that much) will run you about 3-5K yearly. My friend's bond is set at 5K... The R8 sounds more appealing to me right now.
Hell, even a 70K R35 is cheaper in the long run!
Basically, the money can be better spent on many other things.
or do what people here in miami do ship over a skyline, get a 240 put the 240 vins on it, get rid of said 240 (ie push in canal) then register the skyline as a rebuilt title nissan 240sx.
hmm now i just need a 240 to take vins from... oh yea have 2! just wish i could afford a gtr but id prolly get a s15 lol

Yeah, I've known people who tried that a while back... One lost his car, the other guy is serving his last year or so in prison for doing that for a few people.
Looking at that web site, you would have to use a US legal engine, drive train and fuel system.
Not sure how much it costs to insure kit cars though. This may be the only way to legalize an R34, at least the chassis.
EDIT: It never mentions anything about suspension... thats another thing you'd have to look at.

The funny thing is . . .some of these losers are willing to spend the mega bucks just to say they have a Skyline for some odd reason . . .then . . .you have those that will go through the round about ways of getting them, vin switching, registering as a race car, blah blah. I dunno, I just don't get it. Yeah, the Skyline is a great car, but for the money that will be spent, I can think of much better cars.
But if your dream is to own a 40,000 dollar 10 year old Nissan . . .have at it Copernicus.

i was going to delete all that info, it can be found on any skyline thread.. but its good and it will stay.
bottom line kit car.. ill have alot of money when im ready to come back and will be about 5-6 years from now.. if you know anything.. DOT, it doesnt stay the same very long.
if the laws are still strict. ill remove all of my parts scrap the chassis and put it all in a s14.... those who pay alot of crazy money generally pay that much because they do no research or work.
please dont ask me this question anymore.
ps
david baltimore port can be used.. i use to work there.

hai
in this game its about who you know.. if you dont know anyone and you wanna play you will pay alot more than someone with connections.
the biggest issue with military members is... they wait untill they are about hmmmm 4 weeks out to try and export the car/s
all of the succesful exports from japan all started about a year before the person was ready to leave. the cars were all taken apart ( as needed) and crated almost 4-5 months before they left and shipped.
the car will more than likely meet you home. two guys from here successfully imported a R33 and FD which are both street legal in Cali right now.

why buy a hemi cuda? or a original GT500? or a daytona? they all handle like a$$, no a/c, some no power steering.... who would want to pay over 100K for a piece of history.... some people are fools.... Barret jackson should shut it doors...exclusivity, power, rarity, are the reason why....wouldn't a R33 for around $75-80 fit that bill? granted they're "just nissans" (thanks for making me feel weird about owning "just a nissan" let me sell the S14 and DD my California Special now, at least that has double the HP and TQ, LSD. and is brand new... why drive a 13y/o car anyways), but they are rare, and their resale is high right now.... just wait 10-20 years.... imagine what their resale will be then... also remember, back when, those muscle cars were just fords, dodges, chevys stc and could be had for under 5 grand... good investment i say, spend a half a years salary in 1972 on just some limited ford GT500KR thingy, and boom 30 years later it has an asking price of over $250,000
it does seem like a lot of trouble to get one over here...Biggame, +1 for gutting it and putting all the parts in a S14, i would HAVE to see that... have you done anything new to the R33 since we last seen it? keep us informed... with pics of course.... loving the jap McDonalds... having any of those famous mountain roads around ya? if so lets see some pics.... also i'm sure there's plenty of racing events there... are you planning on attending any?

hahaha im not going to gut the car... was just speaking crazy.. everything i do, i do to the fullest... so i know I will have my car with me.. I don't care about any other owner lol.
more pics to come. only thing i did was add a cusco strut bar.. i will not be adding crazy parts to this car.. just slightly bigger injectors a computer and boost controller. keeping it simple and on the track just like my 240.
