I like the guys thinking and willingness to try new things but that is just such a bad idea in so many ways. I'm waiting for his catastophic engine failure post coming up next week.

Wow...

Biggamehit 09-01-2007 08:21 AM

i have invented many functional car parts in my time.. but thats just horrible.

Ayuaddict 09-01-2007 08:49 AM

****ing rediculous.........

jramosthe1st! 09-01-2007 12:06 PM

some of the fins are not welded properly. this has bad idea written all over it.

USMCDrifter 09-02-2007 10:22 PM

seriously dude . . .like an ass . . .I don't even know that much about mechanics, just what I've learned from you all (mostly DJ) and I know that this is a bad idea . . .although, I won't hate on the mans stuff, if it holds up . . .it holds up . . .remember, I also think welding the diff is a bad idea, but it works.

dude but a diff is not balanced down to the smallest gram lol... thats BAD... it disturbs and imbalances everything in a turbo.

USMCDrifter 09-02-2007 10:54 PM

Yeah, I was reading through, then I reference-searched the books, and I learned a lot . . .then I re-read those links you sent me . . .the ones from Garrett . . .and then it clicked all at once . . .it seems that, from what I've read . . .a build up of carbon or any deposit on the fins would cause a disruption in it's overall rotation.

I didn't know that 150,000 rpms was an average rotation speed for those fins and that they each can weigh as little as 15 grams. So if you take it up to 20 grams (which is only adding 5 grams) you've produced a 33.33 percent increase in rotational mass on just ONE fin. At 10,000 RPMS that rotational mass increased up to 25times . . .so at 100,000 RPMS thats an increase of rotational mass by 250 times.

So 5 times 250 is what . . .1250 grams . . .that's 1.25 kilograms or 2.75 pounds of ADDITIONAL rotation weight on a 15 gram fin . . LOL!

I do love me some math . . . I'm no mechanic . . . but I am a scientist, LOL, and cars and science tend to go hand and hand.
