PS3/Xbox Media Server

Anyone else doing it???

Last night I configured my PC's and PS3 in minutes. Now i can view all of my movies, music and pics all through my ps3 flawlessly pretty cool.

this is the page i used to get going:

http://www.rbgrn.net/blog/2007/06/how-to-s...r-xbox-360.html

I used WMP11 and it worked but had small issues. I then downloaded simplecenter and it was super flawless. All you have to do for both is allow your PC to share files and add them to the programs directory.

this is my simple setup:

DSL modem
Netgear Wireless Router
Cat5e cable
PS3 and Desktop Hardwired to router
Two Laptops on wireless.

Size: 703.8 KB

You can do wireless PS3 gaming but as many of you know, you'll never get faster transfer rates than wired.

Only issue now is.... if its not a perfect avi. mpeg2/4 the media is said to be incompatible. The PS3 generally plays back divx(avi) wmv and mpg/mpeg without the support for quicktimes and real player format.

EDIT: Disregard that... the simplecenter 30 day trail version i have doesn't transcode automatically. i will be buying this program as i was very very impressed with its performance last night. Basically if you go with the program, it will (on the fly) encode any video into a playable format on any one of your devices.

yes it allows you to set up a PAN ( personal area network ) with-in your home. Now you can have access to all of your media instantly that is on your computers instead of burning them etc.
