a sad day in mma

yesterday i read a rumor that one of mmas veterans was suspected to be dead. today it was confirmed that former ufc middleweight champ evan tanner was in fact found dead. tanner was one of my favorite fighters ever and really hoped the best for him this year. he had a history of alcohol abuse but claimed to have sobered up and rededicated himself. sadly what was to be his inspiration lead to his death.

Man!

I didn't know him (cause i don't have a TV) but may he rest in peace.
After reading the article, I can tell he was a nice guy who lived life to the fullest. I am sorta the same way. I can relate to him. He is also a good example to follow.

He is also from my home town of Amarillo, TX.

He also writes pretty well. From the heart. I liked all the excerpts from his blog.

RESPECTED: Evan Tanner.

RIP

Evan was good friends with a long time buddy of mine, I got the news from him before all the media brought it out.

Its sad, he was a great guy. We'll surely miss him.

the reason i admired evan so much was because he started his bjj training in his garage. he would watch instructional tapes and use that to train. he was one of the last self trained fighter to actually get somewhere. this and his determination along with his attitude are what many admired about him.

he was not the kind of fighter who would self promote himself more that what was needed. i don't remember him ever disrespecting any of his opponents or making excuses for his loses. those who have met him have nothing but good things to say about him. he was eager to hear what fans had to say and encouraged fans to join in his blogs. some fighters are only in it for the money and don't care to spend time with the fans but not evan.

his troubles with alcohol have spared some debate as to the cause of death being a suicide or not. i'll like to think evan was not the type who would take his life rather than try to mend things.
