from what i understand the reason it costs so much would be because instead of just doing the swap, they do alot of probably unneeded modifications...

Also, have you ever heard of unstable-hybrids.com ? They're in Conyers, GA (very close to me) and do RB, SR, etc swaps. Their clips are way more than yours, though. to the tune of $4,000.00. But, for that price they guarantee intercooler and piping... is that worth it? They charge about $2,000.00 for installation NOT including the motor and tranny mount fabrication. They also have a custom intake manifold that doesn't cross the valve-cover and requires less IC piping.

what do you think?

thanks,

Sorry, you run it under your dash....on top of your 240 interior harness. That way it is concealed.

LoL, who hasn't heard of Unstable? Outrageous pricing, misleading information, making buyers believe that the swap is too hard for them to do, not giving out information on the swap, bull**** engine mounts...

Here's the story. Unstable has had my friend's car for 9 months and still haven't touched it. This is not the only car they've had that long either. They like to tell you that you NEED custom tranny and engine mounts, when, in fact, you don't. They also try to sell you THEIR intake manifold which they don't even make. A shop called Top Hat Performance makes their intake manifold and they take credit because they came up with the design.

They guarantee intercooler and piping huh? I guarantee startup and run, which means that intercooler and piping will be in tact and working properly. They also charge 2k just for install, I charge $1250. I charge $2750 sale price for the RB motors, $3250 normal price. They charge $4,000. If you really look at it, you'd get your car done cheaper and faster by shipping it to me and having me do it than having Unstable do it.

I hear ya :) Cheaper to ship to you, huh? I thought that would be pretty expensive. I may be wrong, but isn't it like $1/mile to transport a vehicle? What are the usual rates for transport? I may seriously consider this!

Let me know,

Hey.

I got a quote of $2400.00 for round trip shipping to Seattle Washington. That plus your pricing comes out to $6,440.00 parts and labor. That in itself is already $1,600.00 less than unstable.

Of course you know whats next. Shipping a car such long distances to someone you don't know and can't easily get your hands on :) What can you do to prove yourself.... as a person and as a business.

I'm seriously considering this! I have MAD offers for my CIVIC so far (didn't expect so many inquiries). It's just a matter of someone coming through, now.

e-mail me direct at ngallman@sc.rr.com .

Thanks,

Quick question Night , can this swap be done in say an S14 I beleive it is , 95 to 98 240 ? Or is this much more difficult ?

I like the look of the S14 much more even though it would cost a little more to aquire.

NightXCZ77 02-27-2003 01:05 AM

S13 and S14 is practically the same swap. They have the same issues and same things that need to be done when swapping. It wouldn't be any harder to do if you like that body style better. :)

CRooKeDCoP 02-27-2003 02:37 AM

Dude you are the man , you made my day lol. I need to learn alot more about this swap still but. Everytime I ask something you never miss a beat and hit the nail on the head with the answers.

Is there more of a reason to choose one over the other ?

Like why did you choose yours ? ( Or was it cuz you already had the car ? )

More parts for S14 vs S13 ? I am guessing if the swap is the same then the rest is cosmetic ? Like you will still have the same availability of parts for that engine ? Even though it is in a newer car.

Anyone else is free to jump in on why to choose S13 over S14 and Vice Versa.

:dunno:

U should be more specific about it. or maybe u didnt know..
s13 red top and black top are same power just that black top is never!!
s14 and s15 only have black top and has a hump or a slant at the end by the firewall of it.. they have vtc which is like vtec

so basically s13 sr red and black is 205 hp no vtc
s14 is 217hp with vtc
s15 is 245 hp with vtc

Sorry, forgot to correct myself.....did it many times before. I do know the specs of the different engines, I was just vague.

KaZ 03-17-2003 11:10 AM

S14 Specs?

What is the weight distribution on an S14 compared to an S13?

EvilCerealBoX 03-17-2003 03:17 PM

probably the same or a little more

Simple S13 03-23-2003 08:19 PM

hey night , i want to get a swap done to my s13(SR or RB) but im still unsure on what to get! which one is better/cheaper/easier to increase the hp and how much faster is the Rb?

NightXCZ77 03-24-2003 01:34 AM

RB25DET Clip - $3250
Parts for Install and fully running - $600
$3850 total.

SR20DET Red Top Clip - $2750
Parts for Install and fully running - $100
$2850 total.

RB25DET - 250 RWHP
SR20DET - 175 RWHP

RB25 responds to mods better than the SR and has far more torque as well as more hp capacity. It has more potential and is more reliable due to it's stock handling capacity. RB engines are Nissan's signature engine line.

My car ran a 12.6 @ 114mph with Intake, Downpipe, Exhaust, LSD, Spark Plugs, Custom Driveshaft, and a Stage 4 Clutch.

Just to take the numbers listed above to get a ratio for HP/$:

RB25DET - .0649 HP per $1
SR20DET - .0614 HP per $1

Prices vary on either swap, but you're looking at more hp per $ out of the RB25 than the SR. You're also looking at an engine with greater potential. To get the SR to match the RB25 in power, you're gonna have to spend thousands more than you would on the RB25.

on clutches... whats the difference between the different stages and stuff? i'm not all up on the whole clutch thing.....

and does anyone know if you would benefit from just completely taking the fan in the front off? i mean i've noticed no FF or AWD have have fans, or maybe i'm missing something

Simple S13 03-24-2003 03:38 PM

i just saw on a different forum that the Rb's wont fit in the 89-90 240sx .. is this true? or is the guy retarded

Check this link.

I know that it's a '91, but the engine bay on that and an 89-90 shouldn't be any different. I might be wrong here, so check with Night, the local rb expert. ;)

repus29537BC 03-24-2003 08:56 PM

Yo night where do you get your rb25 performance parts from? I did some research but it's all rb26 stuff. Do you get it from your friends in Japan.

EvilCerealBoX 03-24-2003 10:09 PM

according to night, all the 240sx's engine bays are the same.... if i remember correctly that is....

NightXCZ77 03-25-2003 12:06 AM

As far as the swap goes, it can be done in S13 and S14 models....it doesn't really matter.

Different stage clutches hold different amounts of torque and HP. I have a Stage 4 Six-puk metallic clutch that can withstand 450-500 pounds of torque which is good for what I need. I also have dual power fans in front of my radiator.

As far as aftermarket parts go....what are you looking for? RB26 internals fit the RB25....cams are interchangeable, and other stuff can be found without too much problem. I get most of my stuff here in the states and a few things from Japan.
