240 noobie in Oklahoma
Just bought a 92 240sx coupe with a KA24 non-turbo motor. Body is in rough condition but seemed to run fine. Had my machanic look at it today and he said that who ever put the motor in did a good job building it but F'ed up the wirning and ECU. So my question to anyone with some 240 knowledge is should I try to go thru his wiring and sort it all out or just get an ECU and wiring harness from salvage. Second it was an auto and was switched over to manual with the motor swap and I was wondering if there is a difference in the Auto and Manual ECU and witch should I use.
I've got some plans for the car after I get all that sorted out. Planning an S14 front end conversion Turbo and a bunch of suspension mods |
If your car is manual, I'd suggest a manual ECU. You should go through the wiring and see if you can repair it yourself... if not, then a junkyard may help you out.
There are differences in the ECU, I don't know them all. The one I do know is that if it's auto, it doesn't have a speed cut, but a manual does. You should change the order around of what your plans are Learn to drive it stock suspension brakes turbo looks What are your plans for this car? and before I forget... welcome to S-Chassis! |
Thanks Shaban my plans for the car are to make a good looking daily driver that has the bite to match the bark with some occasional light drifting for fun. yeah I guess it is kinda backwards but i work in a body shop and can do the front end conversion on the cheap. That's really the only reason that I was going to do the paint and bodywork first. It's primered black over some shoddy bondo on one of the quarters with random dents all over it. If your a body man you kinda don't hear the end driving a car with body damage.

BTW Thanks for answering so fast

Sounds good, I understand where your coming from... you just don't usually see too many drifters that worry so much about the body, because we all know that drifting = body damage.
Keep it on the track :smilie_thumbsup: |
HAHA. We want some pictures up man. Welcome to S-Chassis.

can you explain more about the ecu and wiring.
its not much to F up honestly. |
I will get some pictures up by this weekend
|
yea.. cool.
but there is no "ECU" wiring the only wiring is for the body harness and you color match those. |
