91 Nissan 240SX Timing Belt Kits
Hello out there,
Newbie here... glad there is a medium to talk cars with other people other then my dog. I have a 91 Nissan 240 SX that has a knock. It resulted from the wife driving it without any oil for about a day. Being the broke person that I am I am now going to have to wear the mechanic hat. First... I am going to assume the knock is the timing chain? yes, no? Next, is it better to just buy the timing belts or the timing belt kits? Also, is there a 'gotcha' to watch out for? I hate to start taking things apart and then realize I can't go any further and have to call a mechanic. Thanks for your help, advice and glad to be here! |
Welcome! most of the people here work on their own cars

i have the same knock in my 97...my guess is that it's coming from the valves due to the lack of proper lubing. if you have a solution for this problem...PM me or post it up...

Timing Chain FIxed
Thought I would close out the post by saying that the rattling in my timing chain was actually the top guid rattling in there. It had broken off. We removed it, checked the timing with a timing light and all seems well under the Arizona sun again!

Awsome.

if all the problem is that the guides are broken off, can you just take them out or do you need to replace them?
|
just leave them off
