extremely new to the 240 culture
Hey whats up everybody. I'm completely in the dark when it comes to Nissans. I'm coming from the Honda scene, and I pretty much know everything there is about them...performance and styling wise, but thats after 5 or so years of messing with them. I know whats currently popular and whats considered "rice". So after four Hondas I think its time for a change. I plan on learning alot before I make my purchase. I don't know if there are certain years that are more desireable or certain things I should be looking out for when searching for a 240. I never even heard of the term "S-Chassis" before, so I think I have a lot of learning to do. One of the things I'm really wanting to learn about is the whole aftermarket scene that may cater more specifically toward these cars, also whats popular...whether it be OEM or JDM or rare parts and manufacturers. I also have alot of technical things to learn like what are the popular swaps, and what the bounderies are between Attainable and just plain Impossible. So I guess I'll be putting down some hours on the site. If there are any cardinal rules that I must know feel free to inform me of them. Thanks
The chassis designation for all 240sx's is the S chassis.
The S13 is the model made from 89-94. The S14 was made from 95-98.
Just look around, theres lots of good information out there.

well the older s13 and the newer s14 are almost exactly the same chassis wise but there are slight differences that make the s14 superior to the s13
1. s14 has better weight distrabution then the s13 making its steering neutral
2. s14 have better corosion resistance then s13
3. s14 are just newer less things will be worn out
but other then that the rest is just looks and thats to each their own

and the fact that all S14's come stock with KA24DE (D standing for DOHC)
and S13's come with KA24E (no D, so its not DOHC.. SOHC)
read rys post.
1989 KA24E specs:
9.1:1 Compression Ratio
Power Output:144 HP 5600RPM 155LB/FT torque @4400
1990 KA24E specs
8.6:1 Compression Ratio
Power Output:140 HP@ 5600RPM, 155LB/FT torque @4400
1991-1993 KA24DE specs
9.2:1 Compression Ratio (Nissan Redline Claims 9.2:1CR)(FSM claims 9.5:1 CR)
Power Output:155 HP @ 5600RPM, 156 LB/FT torque 4400
1995-1998 S14 KA24DE specs
9.5:1 Compression Ratio
Power Output:156HP @ 5600RPM, 160 LB/FT torque 4400 RPM
the thing about s13>s14 is just a matter of preference. it's not the chassis that dictates the final out come.
