Hey fellas........

I'm new obviously. I just purchased a 1992 240sx 5 speed, 180,000 miles, virgin down to the stock air box. The only thing that isn't stock is the B&M shifter. I do have a question though. The clutch feels like it engages different in every gear. In first when I take off at a stop light, I can no more than move my foot maybe half an inch and it's engaged. Then about 3/4's of the way out, I feel it jerk like it engaged again. Then in second it engages real close to the floor. Every other gear it engages almost all the way out. Weird. Is there a way to adjust the pedal or cable? ALso I hate the b&m shifter. It's too tight. It's hell to get into first and I can never hit second when power shifting.

Here's a pic:

Hmmmm, strange. But I can tell you that the clutch is hydraulic, not cable. If you're having trouble shifting check the fluid level and try bleeding the clutch. Your clutch master or slave cylinders may also be going out.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't really looked to see if it is hydraulic or not. The b&m is just a bugger. I don't know if it can be adjusted or if it's just new and needs used some. It's even hard to find first sometimes. You have to be dead on to hit the gear you want.

Now, I don't know much about short shifters because I have never owned one, but I am willing to bet that your shifting problems are with the clutch hydraulics, I had a problem similar to yours.

Are you talking about the clutch issue? The shifter is just real precise and I'm not used to it. If I shift normal it's fine, but if I try to power shift it I can't hit nothing and I think it's because the shifter isn't adjusted right.

Welcome to the forums. There's not really anyway to install the B&M wrong...just remove 6 bolts from shifter plate, remove shifter/plate, put B&M in place, make sure the little white bushing is where it needs to go and boom

Thanks for the welcome. It was in there when I got it. I guess I'm just not used to the stiffness. Boy you sure have to be dead on the gear you want or it's not going in. In comparison a stock shifter just had to be close to the gear to go in. This one you have to be exact or it no worky.

The B&M Takes some time to get used to, I have one as well and its very tight, but once you get it going its cool. The Reverse sometimes get locked up on mine.
But in time, you will get accustomed to its action.
It feels better than 14 y/o sloppy stock shifter thats for sure.

Lol. That's what I figured. I think the guy I bought it from had just installed it before he sold it to me so it may take a little usage to get the feel for it.
