overboost
overboost
Hey, I just recently put a sr20 in a 96 240 and i have an overboostin problem. I have a blitz electronic boost controller and its hooked up right, but the turbo keeps trying to max boost. I have a gain set way down and no matter what i do with the boost controller, it keeps overboostin. Is it the wastegate? Any help??
mine was doing the same thing..the nipple on my Wastegate was too small and couldn't pull enough vaccum..try taking the wastegate off and putting a bigger nipple on..or just buy a after market wastegate..thats what i did
quick question..how much boost you hit? i spiked at 25psi and droped at 19

damn you guys are nuts boosting 24psi on stock turbo i thought it was a little much when i was boosting 15psi lol you do know that the stock turbo's max efficiancy is at 15psi so boosting more then that is bad for the turbo and really bad for the engine w/o a tune. when i get my GT28RS im prolly gona boost 18-20psi but i will have a tune and supportive fuel
How to check:
First bypass the boost controller by sticking a vaccum line straight to the wastegate. If it overboosts, then you have a problem with your wastgate actuator. If this is the case, check to see that you can pull it open and replace if necessary
If bypassing the boost controller works, then either you ahve it installed wrong, set wrong, or its defective.
First step in checking your installation is to see that you have the solenoid setup correctly with the nipples in the correct holes. Next check to make sure the vaccum source is going to the correct side. Next, make sure your controller is set correctly for internal waste gate and all settings correct. Next make sure the controller is getting a proper boost signal.
None of this works you may have a faulty controller

Well, its sort of a long story, but when i first got the sr20 dropped in, i had it dyno'd and with the boost controller hooked up, it would only boost to 8 lbs. So the shop disconnected the boost controller and looped the vacuum lines. So the car ran alright for a while only boostin to about 8 lbs, but after about a month it started to boost higher to about the 14-15 lb range and was spiking sometimes. After another month the damn thing boosts to about 24 lbs and spikes all the time. So i hooked the boost controller back up and it reads correctly but it wont set the boost lower. I think my wastegate has been junk from the beginning. Thanks for the help guys! ill check out that nipple this weekend and hopefully i can fix it without having to buy a new wastegate
