Engine Swap

Hey I was wondering if anyone could tell me all the work (and parts that would need to be swapped) if I put in either a sr20det (six speed) or an rb26dett

keioffice 07-24-2005 10:09 PM

woooooooooooooooooooooooooow, buddy, that is the most common swap in a 240sx, do a search buddy on google, there are tons of sites with information.

Ayuaddict 07-24-2005 11:08 PM

neither of those swaps are very common...a RB25/20 is a lot more common...and a 5 speed SR20DET out of the PS13 or S14 is A LOT more common...both the RB26DETT and the 6 speed SR20DET are pretty complicated because of a very different electrical setup...among@other things....like different sonsors and stuff...and the RB26 is pretty complicated because of the twin turbo setup and needing to swap out the tranny to a RWD one like the RB20...unless you really want a 6 speed, a SR20 from a S13 or S14 would be a lot easier...

keioffice 07-25-2005 12:35 AM

your saying that a sr20 is not a common swap into a 240???? then what is?

Helghast 07-25-2005 12:39 AM

not the 6speed version.

phreze 07-25-2005 08:00 AM

The rb26 is not a very common swap and neither is the 6 speed black topmotor for a 99-2000 s15. You said it was the most common swap, but a sr20det, and rb comes in many flavors, the ones he meantined being the least swaped.

I will try and have beter input on the "supject>" next time.

Good luck with that...lots of work, pain, and tears. Plus money lol...I suggest If you REALLY wand an RB26, use the RB25 tranny instead. If not, just go RB25 :thumb:

O and pwned again!!!!!

naptime 07-26-2005 12:06 AM

damn all you ppl. Where do you get all these money for a swap? Not only the money for the swap, but how do you find the time to DO the swap? All that fabrication to make it fit and blah blah blah.....
What's this car gonna be used for anyway with all that power you want to have? And AWD? hmmm inte........ rest.......ing

I'd be happy with a motor from a 91+ lol

Helghast 07-26-2005 12:41 AM

Making the 240 AWD is Ridiculous.

It'd kick ass for sure.

Fast1One 07-26-2005 01:12 AM

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

That is all

Ayuaddict 07-26-2005 04:22 AM

or u could just buy a BNR32 from motorex for about 25,000 (i think)...and it will be twice as reliable more balanced and youll stop traffic...lol....and time is money...i guess you COULD buy the whole S15 front clip and swap EVERYTHING...thatll make the electrical stuff a lot easier...wel good luck...next project u should put a AWD 4G63 in a civic 4 door...sleeper...lol

wow so you have money out the ass.

Okay make a 240 AWD is the dumbest thing ive heard in a while.

RB26 and S15 swap are not hard just costly and time consuming.

S15 6 Speed is easy. If you a wiring genius then that should be no problem, but if you have trouble finding the distrubutor in yoru own car then let someone else handle it.

I know a few tricks to make the S15 swap cake but you have to figure those out yourself as i did.

RB is alttile more complicated and the new engine mount relocation kit will run you about 1600.00 alone for a good one.

To make it AWD mean you have to swap all the suspension components over to the front axles have a place to run through to the bearning.

I know a shop that did a AWD RB S14. Dunno if it runs or drives. But its a huge waste of time, if you ask me.

RB throws off the car balance pretty bad. Your coilover rates would have to be like 16kg front and 10kg rear.

Good luck with that. Your gonna need it.

Initial Daniel 07-26-2005 05:07 PM

Swap this, swap that...

How about you swap my penis into your mouth.

KA-T BABY!

No, I'm joking. Get the engine, and have a shop do it for you. BAM. Swap done.

i would do the swap your self that way you will learn more about the engine, and you can fix it your self.

I think LandHo agreed with me when I asked how people find the time to do this crap and where the money is coming from... :dunno:

SnoopDoug762 08-02-2005 12:10 PM

yes i am lookin to get a lotta power im going to use the car for circuit and a little bit of drifting so after one of the engines are installed which one can i get more power and better performance with when i add other aftermarket parts

and money is a scarce thing to any racer im just plannin for the future i guess

how old are you and have you researched this topic at all???

Im young but i dont ask questions without researching and i espeacially dont ask questions without knowing when im going to do it.

like LandHo and the others said, a shop can do this for you but its gonna cost big $$.

Im not tryin to give you a hard time, im just letting you kno that posting for stuff like this is a waste of time, unless your ready for the swap or w/e...

rcrchik_240 08-03-2005 09:29 PM

Ok, I'm obviously new to this site, but you guys seem to know your stuff. I am trying to get opinions from ppl who have had personal experiences with the sr swaps and the rb swaps. I've been researching these swaps for my 91 240, but I want the different points of view. Any opinions about the ka motors would be greatly appreciated too!

naptime 08-04-2005 06:11 AM

You want different point of views and you claim to have done some research. Have you acutally read the threads on here about the ka motor? How about the KA vs SR thread?

rcrchik_240 08-04-2005 10:47 AM

I have read the ka vs. rb thread, but I didn't see the sr vs rb. I've got my motor possibilites lined up, I am just trying to get some different prospectives before I sink any more money into it.
