Daniel's S14 Restoration Project

Hello, guys. As some of you know, I've been a member of this community for a while now and before I got rid of my last S14, I said that I'd be back; now here I am...

Here was my former S14 for those of you that remember:

Few weeks ago I came across another S14 from a member here and decided that it was go time; so I bought it:

Right now I'm mainly looking to restore/revamp the interior, clean up the outside, and do a little motor work just to get a good daily driver. Future plans do include a KA-T build, though.

Anyway, on to the project!

Attachment 7845

Pretty much how the interior looked when I bought it. You can't tell, but there are crazy stains all over the carpet, dog hair everywhere, and it smelled like hardcore cigarettes with ash all over the place. Not to mention the airbags were deployed, as the previous, PREVIOUS owner went up an embankment.

Gutting process...def. was a pain to wipe all that ash out and get rid of the cigarette smell.

Attachment 7849

New(er) dash!

Dashboard and new carpet installed!

Installing the carpet was more than a pain...I had never done it before and the company I got it from, ACC (think it stands for...AutoCarCarpet or something) had REALLY bad fitment. So much cutting involved, and it doesn't fit very well, like I said. While you can't really tell from the pictures, but it sits kind of funky in some areas.

Right now, still waiting on a new radio trim bezel, cause you all know how that thing goes. Also waiting for new seats to come in -- as well as a quick release steering wheel; cause I figured I may as well. Also going to need a radio...but haven't decided what yet.

More to come! :naughty:

Hello, guys. Small update:

Attachment 7792

UPS guy came through to deliver the good news.

Attachment 7793

FedEx guy decided to show some love too.

Cheap pair of FRIDE seats. Haha, I had to modify my stock rails to get them to fit, but it worked out decently enough. Probably get some real rails by next time I get paid.

Attachment 7794

Interior is almost done, just waiting on a shiftboot...

Got this guy in too:

Attachment 7795

Floormats, shifter, and radio are somewhere on the to-do list, lol.

Edit: Also I forgot to thank Mad-ass for his tip on retaining my horn on my quick release. Works like a charm!

Good job so far on the resto! Night and day difference and welcome back to the community (i'll be honest I only pop in every now and then). Your kouki was an inspiration back in the day and I can't wait to see what comes of this guy!

Oh hey guys! Thanks for the kind words! It's been a longggg time coming...haha.

I'm actually in the process of replacing some maintenance stuff; valve cover gasket, knock sensor, coolant temp. sensor...

I had no idea the secondary o2 sensor broke off...I totally failed emission. Right now I'm just trying to get it registered and on the road.

Took some pictures when I got the car up on the lift, lol. It's filthy!

Attachment 7791

This was already after 3 cans of Gum Cutter, haha.

I guess the valve cover is leaking oil, among other things. Might have a small leak in a fuel line too. Just waiting for more parts to come in before I rip it apart any further.

I was looking at some XXR 521's also at 18x10 with +25 offset...will prob. need spacers to clear the front...

I photoshopped a picture on a black 240 just to get an idea of what it would look like. I was 100% earlier, but kind of on the fence now that I actually see it.

What do you guys think?

eh... eh. Get something you don't need to run spacers with. Those are heavy and look really cheap in person. Do you like multispoke kind of wheels like that? Axis is coming out with some bbs RS reps (Klassic) soon in good sizes but it'll be $1000 ish for a set.

Ooo, that doesn't sound bad. I'm going to do some research and see what these look like.

These rims are pretty cheap, which is why I was considering it...ahaha. If I can find someone selling them cheap enough, might go and cop them anyway and go with a better set later. :icon14:

Found them: http://www.axiswheels.com/view-wheel/axis-klassic

They look GREAT. I'd probably have them done in flat black or something, but that's exactly what I was looking for.

Attachment 7783

or something like these...I don't think these are 521's however...not sure what they are.

silviaks2nr Feb 18, 2011 07:32 PM
