More bad news on this car:

Took it to the shop, because it was making a clicking noise, they said it was the rod bearings. They said the rod bearing will cost $1,000ish, so we told them to replace it. Once they replaced it, they told us that there was a problem in the 4th cylinder. He says the bottom end will need to be rebuilt, he is trying to charge us $7,000 to rebuild it. AKA lawsuit. The car has been in the shop for about 2 weeks, and they told us that it needs to be rebuilt yesterday, after he had changed the rod bearings, clutch, and rear main seal.

Looks like I'll probably be swapping the engine soon instead of selling.

Damn man. I think you have an incompetent mechanic. Can't you do this kind of stuff yourself? You should have known that a fully built KA-T is gonna require a lot more work and upkeep than a stock motor.

Yeah, I know. The place I took it to is called Delta V Motorsports, they specialize in Porches and Subaru's. I know it needs more work/upkeep, but I've only had it for a month, and 2 1/2 weeks of that it has been in the shop.

it seems like your finding out all the reasons he sold it to you so cheap...swap the motor yourself you'll learn more and save money

Update:

Ok, went the sr20 route. S14 SR20, turned it on last night, drove it around a bit, sounds good. Not going over 3000 rpm for 500 miles. Questions:

RPM keeps bouncing from 900-1400, idk why.
also when does the turbo start spooling (rpm)?

vacuum leak?

check all your vac lines.

im guessing you stuck the motor in your self so you should be pretty familiar with everything, just recheck all the lines.

Ok, so all the lines are fine, except for two hoses, and idk where they go. one sucks air in and if i hold it closed, the car pretty much dies. Also while driving if I hit 2500 rpm it feels as if the car is bouncing, then it backfires idk why...

pics of the hoses:

update!

Alright, got all the hoses straightened out, ran good for a few days... then the clutch starts slipping, just ordered a spec stage 3, and waiting for that to come in.

future upgrades:
boost controller
Coilovers (not sure what kind yet)
(maybe) 5 lug conversion/big brake upgrade
wheels

Thanks
and yeah, I've learned quite a bit since I got the car.
Good learning experience, after I get the clutch in and boost controller I'm going to get it dyno tuned at this place about 45 minutes away.
