Jacki's 1993 240SX coupe [Update: post 15]

Okay, for those of you who know me, or that know of me, know that I've been in search for a coupe for a loooooong time now. Probably over a year or so. I live in the middle of the city and I have no where to keep a shell, or a car that needed to be towed or needed work to be drivable so I was forced to keep searching until I found one that ran, and one that I could afford, which wasn't easy to do. I guess that explains why it took so long for me to find one.

Finally, after a long year of searching Craigslist, Zilvia, NICO, Autotrader, Cars.com, 240sxtraderonline and anyother site I could find that might have a cheap coupe, I found the perfect one. My friend posted his coupe for sale on TriStateTuners, and only 16 minutes later it was mine. I ended up paying $700.00 for my 240. It has 179,000 miles on the original dual cam KA, original 5speed and a cleeeeeaaaaaaaaan black interior equipped with S14 seats.

Of course, there are a few problem with the car. I mean, come one, I only paid $700 for it. It's got a pretty nasty dent in the passanger side quater panel, it bogs out pretty bad under 2,500 RPMs, it's dumping fuel like it's its job, the clutch pedal stays on the floor, the timing chain is loose and rattles louder than life (kind of sounds like someone's frying bacon under the hood of my car), the exhaust is hacked off just before the rear tire... just to name a few. I drove the car home from the sellers house (about 40 miles) in this condition and LOL'd the whole way. I had flip-flops on, and it's hard enough to drive in them, but with the clutch on the floor after every shift, they kind of made it easier on me. Just slip the flip-flop under the pedal and pull up! Yeah, that was fun. With it dumping so much fuel, when I got home my parents were asking me if I was on drugs. My eyes were beat red from the fumes. At every light I had to wipe my face because my eyes were tearing so bad... haha. Starting off in first gear, yeah, pretty much had to floor it to get it to move, then when I got the RPMs up a little bit it would dart off like a rocket and I would have to quick shift into the next gear.

The only person that really knew I was getting the car was my friend, Reese. If any of you are familiar with Drift Nasty, you know who I'm talking about. I called him up as soon as I got home and he came right over to check it out. He is also friends with the seller, and knows the car pretty well so when he heard I was getting it he picked up another KA from one of his sponsors to quick swap into my car. Other than these few problems (mostly because of timing being off) there isn't anything major wrong. The car's going to the shop this week and everything is being taken care of. In about a month it'll be good as new and I'll have the Drift Nasty crew to thank!

I will be sure to take plenty of before and after pictures but for now the only pictures I have are the ones I got from the seller, and one that I took myself of the damage. I will definitely be keeping everyone posted on the status.

Because no one wants them? It just seems like everyone over here wants to "drift" so if someone's selling one they figure, "Let me ask $3,000, I know some young kid will pay that much." and they do! That's for like, a hlaf decent one. Pssh, there was no way I was going anywhere near that price. Now immaculate condition, people are asking around $4-5,000 in most cases.

now i don't feel so bad for paying $3k for my 240sx. even though this was over 8 years ago from a used car lot and only had 112,000 miles on it and in good but not great shape.

Agreed that's gonna be a pretty penny... but buy your own body parts and take it to the shop it'll be cheaper...

Yeah, I know if I got it done right it would cost some money, but I'm not looking for anything professional and I know it's not going to be perfect so therefore I don't have to pay anything. One of my friends does body work, and I'm pretty close with the body shop teacher at my old highschool so I'm going to see what they can do for me. I'm going to do what I can to make it look presentable. I'm okay with it not being perfect.

luckly that side has more space... you could bang that out easily and bondo it.

what do you plan to do with the car... just cruise it around.. ??

edit

damn i didnt look at it close enough... i didnt see that the rear light section was damaged.. yea...... thats gonna cost you if you cant do your own body work.

I dropped my car off at my friend's shop Thursday afternoon. I pulled in, popped the hood, and immediately we started going over things that need to be done. So here's an unofficial list of repairs:

-KA24DE swap. Current KADE has a loose timing chain. I know, no big deal, right? The current KA also has almost 200,000 miles on it so we figured, "Why not?" Only thing the new KA needs is rod bearings. Pretty much the only thing I'll be paying for.
-Injectors
-Exhaust
-Coolant resivoir
-Clutch (lines also need to be bled)
-Tie rods
-Brakes
-Windshield wipers
-Tires
-Wheel well things (splash guards, covers? I don't know)
-Windshield
-Tail light
-Keys (the one I have doesn't work with the glove box)
-[and of course] Body work

Those are just things that need to be done that I should do before anything else, but who's to say I will? As for plans and mods:

-Emmisions free (being done with swap)
-Intake
-Exhaust
-Wheels
-Coilovers
-Welded diff.
-Tint
-Head unit (no radio... at all!)
-Paint (long way down the road)

Nothing is definite, yet. I think once I start looking around and I actually have money to spend on mods I'll come up with bigger and better things. For now I just have a few ideas.

I'm hoping that pictures are on the way with the build. I'll be updating as soon as I get them.
