Now here is where it gets confusing. My "redtop" (as billed from Phase2) appears to have the vertical fins on the head and bolt indents on the valve cover that only blacktops had.:dunno: Sorry for the poor quality....

Well if that's a red '98 blacktop, then why the hell do I have a #62 ECU in a 1998 180sx?

And why is this old style gauge cluster in a 1998 180sx? That's only 63k k/m BTW.

Big brake upgade for my 240sx, stock for the kouki 180sx.:D Yet more proof of this being a '98....

...ur clip is really confused haha. The person that owned it in japan probably did a guage swap and a ecu swap....? Im totally confused:laugh:  o0h yea..looks like a nice clip;)

I'm with Stupid 07-22-2003 05:39 PM

Yeah tell me about it. I forgot to mention the steering wheel it came with was also for the older S13's....

-HyJynX- 07-22-2003 06:22 PM

0k im guessing they swaped engines...thats the most logical answer...i think:dunno:

I'm with Stupid 07-22-2003 06:30 PM

Doesn't explain the head's fins and valve covers indents where the bolts go though.

-HyJynX- 07-22-2003 06:45 PM

this has got me stumped man..

s14.5boy 07-23-2003 01:37 AM

Nice clip, i have no idea why its so confused though?

gladhatter 07-23-2003 03:20 AM

They didn't make the 180SX in 1998. 1997 was the last year they made it (I believe). The confusion may come from the fact that a 1998 SR means that it was 1998 CCs. It wasn'r really a 2.0 liter. The clip isn't a 1997... it looks older to me. The red top looks normal to me...just like my 1993. The black top has NO vertical grooves for the bolts ...the red top DOES. 1997 180SX's had blacktops.

Note that there are no vertical indents for the bolts.

I'm with Stupid 07-24-2003 08:08 PM

Holy **** you're righ tI was looking at cc's, I'm such a dumb ass.... I was tired when I looked at it lol. Although I have seen blacktops with those grooves for the bolts migh of been '94's though. Still don't know why my redtop is the only one I've every seen with the fins. :dunno:

gladhatter 07-24-2003 11:20 PM

I have heard of people painting red tops black but never heard of painting a black top red.

i don't even care any more I'll just call it "special" and swap it into a short school bus.

See now on this blacktop there's the groove for the bolt like I was talking about. :dunno:

gladhatter 07-25-2003 12:07 AM

...sure it's not a red top painted black?

I'm with Stupid 07-25-2003 12:10 AM

It has vertical fins though and I have never seen that on a redtop.

gladhatter 07-25-2003 10:18 PM

It's all good! An SR20DET is a hell of a lot of fun. You'll really enjoy it when it's done.

I'm with Stupid 07-25-2003 11:22 PM

Yeah, I can't wait.:naughty:
