pinstripes

Anyone have that pinstripe running down the sides of their car? I have this grey and salmon colored double pinstripe and it really doesnt look good. I read on another board that you can remove it with a hairdryer. I tried, but it seems like you have to hold the dryer over the stripe for a LONG time. which would mean it would take me hours to remove it. Is my dryer not hot enough? Can this even be done? Anyone done it before?

Well u can use a heat gun which gets very hottttt and that would peel it away, but you can also try to peel it off the car and then use some rubbing compound in case you scratch it. And I also think there is some kind of tool that takes it off.

I hate those pinstripes, because my one came with them 2, just can't wait to get it off.

I'm wary about using a heat gun (i dont have one anyways) because I'm afraid of ruining my paint. Also, it seems like the pinstripe is under a clear coat or something so I can't really peel it off. Darn this thing! It would look so much nicer without it.

The pinstripes should be over the clear coat. They are just giving you a pain because they have been on there for so long.

I don't have pinstripes but there is a dealership sticker I have to remove from the rear of my car.

The heat gun will be fine. If you can get one with two temperature settings. The pinstripe should heat up way before the paint.

I would keep a straight razor with a cup of water there to remove the sticker.

Simple green or fantastic could also help. You do not want to run the razor across the paint while it is hot so you can start to peel with the razor and continue with the soapy solution.

I took the pinstripe off of mah car with a combonation of a heat gun, and a 3M adhesive remover. it looks clean and looks much nicer to have that damn thing come off. it was a biatch takin it off tho because it was on there good especially the one on the front and rear bumpers

Import Fanatix Sep 2, 2002 08:44 AM

You had a pinstripe that went on the bumpers, that must of looked pretty bad until u took it off. What idiot wants to pinstripe their whole car? Its not a boat.

At least u took the effort to take it off.

i got a red pinstripe on my BLK and it looks like they trimmed it with a razor too deep and after the years of buffalo winters it started to rust bubble on the driver door.
not pretty

so anybody with after showroom stripes should inspect close.
my cars first owner HAD to have stripes.

10 years later I get rust

Import Fanatix Sep 25, 2002 07:46 PM

you should definitely sand it down and put some touch up paint. Rust is like a virus man. Once it starts its hard to stop. Try to take care of it.

I'd hesitate to use a razor blade on the paint.

I took mine off with a thumbnail, then used tarand bug remover on the remaining adhesive... it's a long process. I think there are plastic razor blades made for this - you may want to check the autobody supply house for them.

You can also use a bondo spreader.

Again, it's a long process.
