Pwnage HID foglights... suggestions?
Pwnage HID foglights... suggestions?
Well i got to thinking about the lack of clearance behind our popups, and how that makes mounting HID projectors nearly impossible without a lot of work to the housing, so i decided that i would try to make headlights out of my chuki bumper grilles. First im going to start by cutting away all the little fins that would block the light, and make mounting a lens really tough... Dont worry, im not going to use the stock pastic for the headlight, im pretty sure it would melt, so im going to make a fiberglass mold... hopefully that can withstand the heat produced by the projectors.. and im going to test this out with cheap halogen projectors... dont wanna waste a few hundred on an HID kit, and **** up... so heres where im starting at... BTW, i think this is the first ever chuki bumper grille HID projector install...

Im hoping it will look something like this...

Any ideas or suggestions?

my fogs are kinda like that (h3 halogen though)
you can fit hid projectors in your flip ups no problem, probably e46 single xenon projectors new at hidplanet for $99 or find a deal at a salvage or body shop. you want to mount the projectors as high as possible to increase both foreground and distance illumination. i would buy a pair of headlights you can just mess around with. hid burners do not get as hot as halogens so dont worry about melting, but weatherproofing is a MUST. what projectors did you have in mind?
take into account you will need projectors, ballasts, and bulbs
for not wanting a drop in kit

these are e46 bixenon projectors (high and low in one projector)mounted inside 4x6 headlamps
i know i had suggested e46 singles before but bixenons are do-able aswell.
look at this link too, baller *** projectors (mine are better though :-P )

tsx projectors are single xenon though.
i suggest you browse hidplanet and figure out what projectors will fit/you can use
if you really have to have them in the fog cutout area cover the projector front (the lense will pit and kill the sharpness of beam /outupt/colorband if you get projectors that throw a colorband)
and make sure you buy real hid projectors and bulbs, not halogens with a drop in kit.
if you really want to make use of your space/money get some fog projectors (yellow preffered) and mount the hid projectors inside the headlamp housings.

colorband sex

no no no... the headlights i ordered are 2003 model cadillac cts headlights, 2 of em. They have halogen projectors. I was going to use those, cuz theyre cheap, to mess around with and get a general feel for the whole projector thing... besides, having 4 projectors and another pair of ion yellow fogs would be pimp.
i want to get HIDs now, those pics are the sex, especially with the yellow lights on your car. time to do some research.
ill probably end up buying ebay light enclosures and some silverstars... -_-

....too bad he cant put the headlights down....
BTW theyre tsx prjoectors with "the washer mod" which is where they put washers between the bulb holder and the bowl.... and the shroud is a bmw shroud... forgot the model.

He said if he puts them down he will break the bulb and connector. I wouldn't even care if they didn't go down, the light output on them is amazing compared to the Silverstars I am running now or any other bulb that I have ran.
I gotta source all the parts and ****, but that would be so nice for the night drives around here where its usually dark as all hell once you hit the country and back roads.

yep.. thats why im experimenting with projectors with my halo gen chuki fog light project, so i can get a feel for how to make projectors work for me... then move on to HID projectors.
it is possible to make them go down, it would all depend on what projectors you use. e46 singles are very shallow so they would be good candidates if you want to retain the flip up action... also how you mount the projector can give you more room. la, those cadillac projectors do not take well to drop in hid kits if that is what you had planned on doing. i am probably going to add another pair of projectors (driving lights)
so is it possible at all to have the bi-xenons and the luxury of flipping the lights down? i have been looking to do this forever and that hatch looks better than anything ive ever seen.
i am pretty certain e46 single xenon projectors will work and you can still flip up and down the lights
e46 bixenon is a different story, i really wouldnt be able to tell. refer to the above e46 bixenon pics in the 4x6 housing, you could probably mount the projector just a tad further forward and maybe maintain the flip action. It's really a trial and error deal. you could always get single xenons and aim them propperly with the headlights not flipped up all the way and then raise the beam/lights a tad more for high beam function.
