Sunroof of Doom

I have this p.o.s. sunroof someone ghetto rigged on my s13 when I bought it. Its got like silicon all around it to keep it from leaking and whistling but doesnt work. I want to get rid of it. Its going to be painted soon so how would I go about filling that big hole in the roof after I take it out?

here's a good idea on how to fill a sunroof. this particular application is for a mini cooper, but some of the ideas will translate over. it's not cheap, but the guys at SCC never seem to be budget conscience. read through it and see what pieces of the process you want to keep, and which ones you want to change

definately not worth the it considering the cost. Your best bet would be to unclog the drain hoses and adjust the sunroof so it doesn't whistle. If you really want to, then make your 240 a T tops!

I never said it was economical ;)

i have been thinking about doing that to and i dont know maby if you went to a salvage yard and could find another s13 that dosent have a sun roof and just change the roof? Can you do that?:dunno:

drnovascotia 10-15-2003 09:41 AM

Not that i'm aware of, the roof is 1 piece that goes down to the frame, if it did you'd have to take the windows off and the full nine yards.

i agree that it would be hard/impossible to do. you could in theory cut the A, B, and C pillars at the bottom from both cars and then weld the new one to the frame, but it wouldn't look pretty, nor do I think it would be as rigid as you would want.

i'd say if you're gonna do it, while you're @ it, make it into a T-tops!
heh

yes it could be done just like that and it is very possible that you or anybody else would never know it was ever done. if done right it could be just as structuraly(sp) as strong as from factory but it wouldnt last as long. after prolly 6 or 7 years of hard or should i say spirited driving the welds if not done properly would start to weakin and eventualy have to be redone. but if done by a highly skilled welder it could last longer then the life of the car.

wouldnt be cheap.
Just my $.02

what about just filling it with a metal plate, like shving a door handle, if it was welded right it would hold up, thats what i thought of doing, cuz i want to phantom top my fastback and i think it would look funny with glass in the middle

drnovascotia 10-29-2003 07:34 PM

Thats always a possibility, but thats a lot of custom work and welding, and I don't know how good it would look, but definately a possibility.

Our sunroof's suck, thats for damn sure.

i agree in full, but i do enjoy the extra head room, but the carbon fiber in the center looks super sick, and i wonder if i could keep the flip up functional:dunno:

the sun roof on my hatchback used to be a pain in the neck. it always go down when i run into a rough road so i went to a nissan dealer and ordered a new lock for my sunroof and have it fixed. now my sunroof is like brand new again because it doesn't fall anymore when i run into some rough roads and it doesn't wissle when i'm driving fast in the express way:thumb:

Mine whistler loud as hell when i'm on the freeway as of late, any faster than 70 and it's annoying so I have to turn the music up. I've tried re-adjusting it, no to avail, i'll probably need a new seal put on her.
