Help! Turbo whirring noise?

Hey guys, yesterday my turbo started sounding funny. It's SUPER loud, like 100x louder than it was before.

Before it would make the normal "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" sound while spooling. Now it's "whirrrrrr-rrrrr-rrrrrr-rrrrr-rrrrrrrr"

No oil leak, no coolant leak, manifold doesn't look cracked, downpipe isn't cracked. Anyone know what could be causing this? I hope my turbo isn't going out :(

Check for shaft play. Maybe one of your seals went out or maybe your shaft play is really bad and the turbine is rubbing against the housing.

I'm pretty sure it's from shaft play. Seals are fine.

Anyways to fix it if it's from shaft play? bb turbo

Yeah, you will need to rebuild the turbo. If the housing is badly damaged, you will just need to buy another turbo.

BB turbo's can't be rebuilt :(

Order a new larger turbo! :)

I don't need a larger turbo. My turbo was perfect for what I was doing. If there was that much shaft play, would the car still pull the exact same and boost right?

If the seals arent bad, It prob could. I didnt know what BB meant. HAHA. I also have a BB turbo. You sure that it is getting oil? Maybe the line is blocked or something.

It seems like it's getting oil, nothing was changed, there are no oil leaks, and the line is connected nice and tight. I've been reading around on zilvia, and people keep saying that it could be a leak in the dp, manifold, or bov. No body is saying anything about a bad turbo, so that brings my hopes up a little bit. I'm going to say now that it is the manifold, just because it's a cheap used Megan manifold, but I'm going to keep checking. I'll take a video of it for you and hopefully you can hear it.

I put in a turbo in my RSX that I had and it blew the seals in the turbo. It boosted the same, but I had alot of smoke at idle. It was not a BB turbo, so I bought a rebuild kit to replace it myself, but it still smoked after I was done. I than sent it in to GReddy and they rebuilt it. Took like two weeks from start to finish and costed me $250!

Do you have any friends that have a similar manifold that you know is good that you could install just to check to see if it goes away?

Only other person is my cousin with a stock manifold.

can't really hear it but look around the collector area or manifold flanges for any black soot residue. seen those manifolds crack if no extra bracing used.
