240sx Brake system history Q

Does anyone here know what model year ABS (2wheel or 4wheel) became an option, then standard on the 240sx? No, it's not a quiz or anything like that. I'm considering a 240sx as the platform for a buildup project, and ABS needs to either available or a possibility in the long run. I haven't settled on the body style I'll be starting with, so I want to take the ABS question into consideration.

From what I've been able to find online (mostly via edmunds.com), it looks like ABS wasn't even an option until 1997 (!). That just doesn't seem right. If anyone on this forum has different information, I'd appreciate a correction.

I'm oretty sure it first became available in 91. It was definitely available on the S13 body style well before 1997.

It's not really a very advanced or refined system, hardly something you'd want to make centerpiece of your build.

I believe it is a 3 channel system - 1 channel for each front wheel and another for the 2 rears.
