300zx brakes-how???

ok, someone please tell me a little about the zx brake upgrade. i found a spot to read and see about the swap but i lost it. can someone please point me in the right direction?

Import Fanatix 08-01-2002 06:20 AM

well www.pdm-racing.com has the swap available, but don't know if they give you any directions and so does www.srswap.com, but I also don't know if they have directions. But those are some places that do sell the kits, and from that you can probably figure out how to do it or what's needed.

There is a dude that goes by the username Top Hat on ebay. He is like always selling a kit.

There is a pictorial step-by-step at www.********** in the installs section.

I know I had the files sent to me a while ago, but I have to dig them up and put them on my website for a thorough step-by step.

A few things to consider - you want the aluminum calipers in 26mm. AFAIK, these were the ones available on the 1990 300ZX non-turbo only. Later non-turbos had iron calipers (26m) and all turbos had 30mm calipers / rotors that will not fit inside stock wheels.

There are different versions of the 7 spoke aluminum S13 wheels. There is no set rule on what years/models got which version. They all look the same on the outside, but some have a reinforcing rib on the back of the spoke that will not clear even the 26mm caliper.

You will need hybrid brake lines. I know PDM sells them, and I think I have seen them elsewhere as well. They will need the body side fitting for a 240sx and the caliper side fitting from a 300ZX.

If you're doing this on an S13 or non-SE S14, you will need to redrill the rotors to 4 lug pattern.

I think that www.heavythrottle.com is selling conversion kist that include all you need, but they're still more expensive than gathering your own.

now what about changing the hub over from a 4 lug to a 5 lug? is it just a matter of removing the cotter pin and un bolting the nut from the hub and putting a 300zx hub on? I would like to convert my 240sx to 5x144.3 so i can get some of the blitz wheels I want...

rudeboy 09-11-2002 09:34 PM

good question, that was gona be my next

Justin.b 09-12-2002 06:11 AM

Nope - it's a little more involved than that.

The S14 spindles are thicker than the S13, so you will need. S14 steering knuckles to put those hubs on your car.

If you want to keep the S13 struts, you will also have to drill out the bolt holes, since the S14 holes are slightly larger in diameter.

I'm not sure about what is needed for the rear... a friend of mine has done it, but I didn't pay too much attention since I never planned to do that swap.

know of any site that details the process?

it sounds sreiously more complicated. what are the advantages besides more rim fitament? will i be able to bolt on z32 or r32 brakes also?

The corruption continues. Now I have lists of parts to purchase. Damn you. :D

I think Rich's direction on Fatman racing are for doing the 5 lug swap on an S14, which is different from doing it on an S13 since you don't have to swap the steering knuckles. SE 5 lug S14 hubs will fit right on a non-se S14, but won't fit on the thinner spindles of the S13.

You can also swap in the lighter aluminum rear pices from a 300ZX. They will need some fabrication to work with an S13, but may be really close to fitting easily into an S14. :) Another part for your list.

so what are the advantages of havin 5 lugs? then once the conversion is done will there be limitations on shock upgrades?
