Brake upgrades, rear brake alternatives
 

So I want to do a brake upgrade here before I go on a road trip in September. I don't want to go through the ebrake hassle with the 300z brakes on the rear, but I would like to get a dual caliper rear setup to keep things balanced. Are the q45 rear brakes dual caliper? I've read you can use STI rear calipers with the same bracket, anyone done that? Other options?

any 2+piston non slide caliper is going to require a special ebrake setup. STI has one just like the 300. The other way they are done is by having a separate ebrake caliper like some Lamborghini's and such, but that would be very custom. I am not sure how it was setup, but the late s14 silvia K's and the s15 had bigger brakes included 300zx like fronts standard. Whatever they use for the rear would be a better balance and upgrade. Remember that if you are upgrading all 4 calipers, a master cylinder upgrade is a good idea as well.

Good to know. I may just do the front's with a 26mm caliper since I don't have the money to buy new wheels too and I need the new brakes. I've read that the 30mm calipers will clear the s14 SE 16 inchers but I haven't found confirmation. Anyone run 30mm calipers on stock s14SE wheels?
I plan on doing power slot rotors, hawk hps pads all around. May or may not do the 300z master cylinder, I have an automatic so it's already a 15/16 MS, which I've read keeps a good balance when only swapping the front z32 brakes.

I do not think it makes a difference 26mm vs 30mm in clearance. I have seen plenty of 240s with z32 brakes and s14 se wheels

Got some z32 aluminum calipers, SP rotors, Hawk HP+ pads and SS lines on the way.

What size calipers, 26mm or 30mm?

Doesnt really matter. The 30s are more readily available. I prefer to get the aluminum ones rather than the later iron ones for the weight savings.

Ah for Hawk HP+, they do have great tq, but they are noisy and create tons of dust. They also tend to fade pretty hard after a few hard laps if you ever go to road course track events. There are some petty, although more expensive options out their including Pagid and Ferroda

I'm trying to get some 30mm alum. from autozone... good deal, like 230 for both front calipers, pads (that I won't use) and hardware (springs, shims and even brackets) I say trying because they have to special order them.

Dont forget the core charge. Since you do not have a set to give them, you will be charged the core

The core charge is like 23 bucks, I could just give them back my 240 calipers... they don't care what kind they are, or I may sell them on here.

Got an even better deal from carquest, 78 bucks a piece for the alum ones.
