Coilovers worth the money?

Once again right when I decide on what I want to do, something changes my mind. I had decided on S-Tech's and AGX's as far as my suspension goes. Then when I got the money I started hearing horror stories about TEIN. And I also hear that they don't hold up very well to AutoX type driving. So, I decided to step up and go with coilovers. But which to choose? I have around 700-900 to spend, and I need something that will last. (student=no $ for replacing stuff)

I really am not sure what I am getting myself into as I am a real noob when it comes to suspension. Is there any place that is a basic suspension for dummies? or can someone help me out with what dampening and spring rates have to do with performance?

-noob ready to learn

basic purpose of springs are to absorb bumps.
stiffer springs are used to reduce the vertical motion of the car which also increases the roll stiffness of the suspension.
lowering your ride height lowers the center of gravity of the car.

dampers oppose the vertical body movements.
without dampers the car would constantly bounce up and down.

stiffer springs vibrate faster than softer springs, so stiffer springs require higher dampening rates to mask that effect.

with $900 your only options would be D2 or MR coilovers.
it doesnt seem like anyone likes the D2s.

hope that helps.

In my opinion. They are very much worth it. I have Silk Road Coilovers right now. and i love them. look into KTS coilovers at SPLparts.com. They are only a little bit more and very nice.

yes, there is a whole lot more to it, but it would've taken forever for me to type out all the details.

Yeah if you are on a budget the kts coil-overs are a great buy or you could always go with the cheap apexi coilovers all around $1100. Save up, they are worth it.

I've heard really great things about Silk Roads, but I think they are out of my price range. Can anyone give me a link though? The KtS's look great, but I'm not sure I'm willing to spend that much. Foe that price couldn't I get some TEIN's with EDFC? As for the KTS's It says they are 8kg/mm and 6kg/mm. Is that a right rate? I can't recall but I think the TEIN's are lower than that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Beleive me you are a lot more helpful than the guys in my area who just want to laiugh when I ask a question. Ha

Oh and thanx for ALL the help so far guys!

Tein super street are around $1000 and edfc is $350 so kts would be cheaper and beter. Tein has lots of spring rates up 8kg/6kg is pretty good all around spring rate.

I have coilovers and sometimes i think it's a waste of money. I don't think i would really fully use my coilovers potential except maybe a really hard turn here and there and yearly track duties. But they're kool, can't complain.. except i should've gotten stiffer spring rates.
