D-MAX coilovers

Im a HUGE fan of tein but i recently started learning more about d-max and they seem to be pretty damn sweet. so my question is any one ever run d-max coilovers ?? any positive or negative feedback?? im still most likely gonna get the tein super drifts but im lookin around a little bit first.

I'm running D-Max SPEC D1 on my S15. I bought them used and am missing a couple pieces so removed them for the time being. But for what little time I had them on.

The ride quality........still a little on the bumpy side on the softest setting
Ease of adjusting......very nice
Looks.....................matches well with my car
They have a notched hole to run additional camber on the front, which is nice.

Overall opinion, they are a good buy....but there are better out there if you have the money.

i would get some stance coils. there construction is beefy & they have good valve rates. i havnt ridden in a s13 w/em, but i have driven my buddys gc impreza w/em. the gc chassis is the same weight as the s13 & i liked the way they performed. my KTS coils are great for drift, but i would like a softer spring to be able to get more suspension movement so im not hopping around everywhere. the choice is yours, just dont buy megan or ksport

thanks cause i was considering ksport but im probably gonna go with tein super drifts or stance cause i see a lot of drift cars that use them

Stance is a great choice. You'd be happy with them.

btw whats wrong w/ ksport?? i was looking into them but if there **** then....

carps13guy 10-01-2009 07:03 AM

ksports use thinner alum. in the shock bodies (ive deduced this theory from 3 of my frnds having warped shock housings from running on the street), the valve rates are way ****ty & unpredictable, & the shocks blow way too easily. dont cheap out on something that is as critical as suspension components. ksports are 900 & stance,KTS,ect. are only 300-400 more. do it right the first time!

Best advice right there! Pay a little more now and enjoy them longer.

that sucks cause ksport has drift specific coilovers. so its tein or stance. thanks guys

Lots of companies have "drift specific" coilovers, anyone can say that "these coilovers are for drifting" Just read reviews they are all over the interwebz.

drift "spec" coils just use stiffer springs and they might change the valving in the shocks a lil bit, but all good coils will help you drift better. & everyone has their own tastes as far as rebound/compression & spring rates go. i just know that stance coils are very good entry level coils & they dyno their shocks to perfection. where as teins are not as predictable or consistent. check the spl vs. tein shocks.

IMO Being that I own both Stance and D-max. The D-max ride almost identical to my Gr+ Pro(Stance). There are about the same in price. I also road race/time attack and use Apexi N1 Pro with Swift springs. I've had K-sport and they started leaking after about 5 months. Save or spend the extra $ on a better coils you will be happier. With Tein you have custom valving done or with any of the big name companies but you will spend more.

great info dude

I actually have the D-MAx coils on my zenki, DD is not ideal with the exact setup I have (damper is set to 29 in the front and 20 in the rear if I remember right) Things ran stiff and I loved it. I never had any problems with them at all, yet they kept the car planted... I still have stock sways and nor any kind of anti sway bars and never felt the need to replace or buy any of them, solely due to the fact that the coils eliminated that much body roll in themselves.

I would definitely recommend D-Max's, They also have the little washer on the upper bolt in the front of the coils which serves the purpose of camber adjustability. If you rotate that washer it changes the position the bolt goes through and will automatically give you a negative camber, and with the additional camber that can be adjuster at the plate up top is something I do not get mad at all.

Good luck with your search though, I was also thinking of stance / Megan / Ksport. But then I met the guys at DMax in person and talked with them a bit and thats when I was decided "why the hell not". And I'm glad I went that route for sure.
