Hardly any brake pedal?

What would cause the brake pedal to be very soft, and hardly brake at all and only start stopping when the pedal is to the floor? The car sat for a while, is it possible I need to bleed the brakes? how about a hole in the booster?

Is the brake light on even when the e-brake is all the way off? That would mean you're low on brake fluid. It's something you might want to check anyways.

Bleed them and see how that works...

Sometimes the light stays on.. but I'll add fluid, alot of fluid and it will be fine. Then the next day it will do the same thing. I think I have a leak in the system somewhere. The booster and below are damp, so I think I have a crap booster.

look under your dash.... right about the break pedal you will see the mechanism that operates the master cylinder.

you may have to pull some of the firewall padding back and thats a sport that the master cylinder leaks from. if so get rid of it.

Im 99% sure it's the booster. Not a big deal, i picked up the booster/master cyl assembly off the internet since i planned on gutting the entire brake system anyway.

How hard is a new booster to put on?

USMCDrifter 08-07-2007 05:16 PM

easy, I put one in 2 BMW's and those are BUGGARS, boosters are easy fixes . . . usually if your booster is out the pedal effort is harder, but okay!

if you're losing fluid, it's not because of the booster, remember, there is NO WATER in brake fluid so it will NOT evaporate, if it's going down it's time to replace something.

I think im going to go ahead and replace my rubber caliper lines and my booster/master cyl and see if that helps. The pedal is alot better after the new rotors/pads and bleeding the brakes.
