HICAS Swap
I have a friend in my area who owns a HICAS equiped hatch and wants to remove it. I am interested in putting HICAS into my Coupe. Yes I know it eats power...for me its the technology point, I'll have more than enough power. I really dont feel like defending my choice in this matter, just want help with the swap.
So the question is, how hard is the conversion, and If I have both cars side by side, can I just swap the entire rear end/rear subframe? What electronics are involved that I have to chase down and transfer? I'm hoping to be able to do this in a day. Any and all advice is welcome. |
This friend....his name is me right? hahahah
|
Yes Nick, I'm talking about your setup.....
Figured I'd get all the info I need here so we can get the swap done right and quick. Worse comes to worse I have a futon in the garage if it takes too long..... |
haha. alright. we still set for far into the future?
|
As soon as your car is running/ready...I doubt I'll be street ready before you.
|
haha well see. I was asleep, until i woke up from a horrifying dream about avoiding this ONE bee from stinging me lmfao.
|
So can anyone help out here??
|
Apparently not. I know that there are extra power steering hoses that run from the front and go to the rack in the back. From what I understand, this is not a couple hour job. I am not sure if you need a different power steering pump to handle the extra fluid.
|
Ok. I'll have nick's car right beside mine so anything on his car that is HICAS specific, I'll have access to, so I'm not worried about anything major missing. Just not sure what all needs swapped.

Prob the harness because of the electronics involved with the hicas, rear k-frame, power steering pump, lines. That is all I can think of. There is prob alot more.

hicas computer. hicas light on the dash. |
The light on the dash is not needed. I am talking about the whole harness. From front to back. Because of certain sensors, otherwise the hicas may not work properly.

thats a heckof a job.
There are lines that run to the back, different pump, i think different reservoir, different high pressure hose, different sensors, with wiring harness, different differential/driveshaft, The lines underneath the car will probably be hard to swap over becuase of all the road grime/stuff. Most of this stuff SMOKE mentioned, By I am also talking from a 300zx w/ HICAS point of view. the best thing I can write is CHECK THE FSM. I have seen the HICAS section. It'll have EVERYTHING YOU NEED KNOW about HICAS. PAGE ST 26 - ST 66 ST = Steering System |
Hmm, might be a bigger deal than expected. Ill have to do more research, but given how long it will be until Nick or I have running cars, I think I have time.
