I hate to ask, but...
I searched, and nothing really useful came up, but since one of my brake calipers self destructed (bolt stripped itself out while braking), I need a new caliper. I can get ahold of 300zx, j30 or q45 brakes... but Im not sure if any of these will clear stock wheels. Is there any good setup that WILL clear stock alloys?

remember seeing this on zilvia a while back
http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.p...t=z32+calipers |
i believe brian er...motegineon has a set of Q45 calipers, they are 90% as good as Z32 brakes, the only major drawback is the pad availablity. you should PM him or i suppose he will chime in on this thread.
hmm... sounds like a good deal. Ill need to replace the caliper (or see if the bilt jsut backed out) before I finish my motor rebuild. Driving without brakes FTL
there j30s there nice, and im pretty sure they clear stock wheels on an s14(16s) im not sure about 15s though
yeah the j30 or q45 should clear stock wheels idk about the 300zx.
yea i gots j30's with some brembo rotors, much larger than stock, they cleared my 15'' meshies so im sure theyd clear stocks
Coolbeans. When I eventually sell my 240, Itll be worth a hella fat penny.. I plan on going ka-t this summer.. so stoppers are a must.
If you have 16" stockers, then the 26mm 300zx caliper will fit. The 30mm 300zx caliper will not though.
there 15s though, its an s13. The only mods that need to be done for j30s, well not really a mod but you wont have a dust sheild. well and you will need to drill your rotors to four lug...if your not 5.
Yup. I think the 26mm will fit, I saw a thread on zilvia where they did some sort of 300zx conversion on an s13 with stockers and it cleared. Wasnt a whole lot of room left, but it was functional.
q45 calipers will clear a 15. I have some q45's that i picked up (not installed yet). I test mounted them one day when i had the wheel off and they have probably 2 inches of gap between the wheel. it makes the calipers look more beast ;)
sweet. Ima look on ebay for some calipers.
i got mine at a local junkyard. front calipers and almost brand new (surface rusted) rotors for 44$!!!!! u cant beat that price man.
hm... finding a q45 in local yards that I know of will be like finding a 300zx turbo. Ill look though. I gotta get a fender anywayz.
look for j30s, there alot more common and just as good as Q45s.
Theyre the same brakes?
On a side note a32 chassis brakes are the same as 300zx brakes, 30mm i think? Dont quote me on which size... |
i think they are, if not there like identical in stats i think.
q45 are slightly larger
stock j30 q45 26mm z32 30mm z32 |
Should i get the z32 MC when I change the front calipers as well, being that im adding 2 more pots to the total?
Most don't.
Some does. I did . . cause I like to "finish" the job. If you don't . . it'll be a little soft on the pedals . . mushy. |
yea not necessary with only the front but itd be nice
I hate mushy pedals. Remind me of chevy brakes. Theyre notorious for that.
lol i better check, if i have chevy badges the /=. i think i need to just bleed them, im just to lazy.
Every chevy ive ever been involved with has had the infamous spongy brake problem...

You dont really need the MC from the Z, bleed the brakes and you should be fine.
99.9% of the time, mushy brakes just mean you need to bleed the brake a few times. we bled the system in our Formula D car 3 - 4 times when we installed the R32 calipers in the front. Ran some ATE Blue Brake Fluid and it ran like a champ all season long. oh yeh, Project Mu B Spec pads FTW! and I mean B Spec, not B Force. |
