Shake at 55 mph

Got a 94 240sx convert. Has 67K on it. Car gets a vibration from 50-60 mph, but is gone at every other speed. You can feel it in the steering wheel, and it seems to be coming from front driver wheel area. Car had the issue with oem wheels, and the tires were junk, so i figured had a bad tire. Thought that was as good as any reason to update to some nicer wheels. Put on new 17" wheels and rubber. Problem still there. I have heard this problem mentioned before, but it never seems like it has been answered. Thanks.

try balancing your tires useually this will fix it

^^either that or get an alignment...

what about speeds over 60 mph. also were the old tire worn unevenly, and are there any noises coming from the front of the car?

Not a balance issue, no chance that i had a bad tire on left front, then buy all new, and have a bad tire on left front. Old tires had pretty even wear, just so old they were dry rotted and cracking on side walls. No noise or hummimg from front end. Thanks.

that's what i'm thinking at this point.

what you should do is lift the front of the car. then place your hands on the tire, one on the top and one on the bottom. try to wiggle it (the tire that is  ). if the tire doesn't move then look for something else while you're at it. something like a bad tie rod end or ball joint holding the steering knuckle.

still would chack the balance on the tires some shops just mark where the weights came from instead of actually rebalancing the wheel and tire when they change the tire. as we all know no two tires are the exact same :) if that doesnt work id check the bearing or even the bushings. could even be a blown strut. lots of could bes with a shimmy :( good luck and let us knwo what you find

check your front struts... when i got my car the f struts where blown, and it had a shake from 55 to 60. i changed them out for some megan track series and have'nt had a shake since... just go push down on the front of you car and see if it's bouncie,(soft).
