Shock Boots

Hey guys, I got a quick question.
I'm changing the shocks and springs on my car this weekend and
when I went to the local autoparts to get myself some new shock boot's,
the guy tells me that it's 60bux for four shock boots. Now my question is do
I really need them? I mean Yea, they are supposed to protect the shocks
but 60bux for 4 piece's of rubber and do they really protect the shocks?
Im not trying to be cheap, it's just with my minimum wage job, 60bux is painful.

I didn't do my research well enough when I put my springs/shocks on so I left the new boots off. They are there to protect and extend the life of your shocks so they do serve a purpose. I wish I had put them on mine. I've been rolling for about a year and a half without the boots with no problems. You should put them on just find a better price for them.

The old ones are probably too torn up to use huh?
maybe you can get them cheaper online.

I've been searching and so far, $60 for a set of four is the best deal I've come across. Still searching though! We must be vigilant!!!!:icon14:

hahaha. You can always use ductape

Biggamehit 04-06-2007 12:56 PM

yea you need them they keep dirt and debris out. they also have bump stops.. this stops your suspension valve from traveling all the way down and pretty much damaging your strut causing gas to leak out.

Yeah, I was looking online too, I couldn't find them cheaper any where. I think Ima go without them for now, Unless I find them for cheap. Thanks for the advice though, It's much appreciated.

Yeah your gonna need the bump stops unless you like buying shocks all the time. I never used the boots and never had a problem. Guess i was lucky.

Another cheap set of strut boots for anyone who's lookin! http://parts.shopnisparts.com/brand....ion_boots&my=1

Those links you posted up still equal about 60 dollars for the set. Think of it this way Viral, you could spend the 60 bucks now and be done with it or you could spend another 400 bucks for shocks sometime within the next two years. $60 > $400

the boots are there to keep dirt and debris away from the strut piston shaft. when dirt gets on the area where the shaft moves into the strut, you can scratch up the shaft causing the oil to slowly leak out.

Levi said he never used boots but, he knows what they are
