Well from what i heard Struts fromt and shocks rear but that could be backwards as well. Is it really that important?

No I was just curious because when reffering to cars they say struts but for trucks they say shox?

OK Your were right
Struts -Front
Rear - Shox

Position is not deterministic in this case.

Shocks dampen the action of springs.

Struts also dampen the action of springs but they also provide upper location to the frame.

A good example is in the macpherson strut setup. In this design there is no upper control arm, the top of the strut contacts the frame and pivots as needed during steering.

Hope this helps. :)
