Suspension as a whole

I am very interested in auto-x, but not interested in using my stock suspension. I HALFWAY understand the use or sway bars and inderstand new shocks/coilover help with control of the car, but what is best? As far as set-ups and how they work...I don't want to save up (for years,(working at Capt. D's)) and not be happy with my suspension set-up. Or worse, it not "work" right for Auto-x. I really want to get involved with this and still be able to drive my car daily and not worry about it. So any reccomendations or help in comprehension would be appreciated.
Thanx guys.

EDIT: and do you think I should get new brakes 1st? I just put OEM brakes and rotors on around a month ago. (not my choice of what kinda, Dad actually offered to pay for it)

If your asking for the best that's personal preference. Do some research. I like JIC for coilovers some dont. I like tanabe and white line for sway bars. Tanabe for the rear arms vey beefy.

Listen to what your butt dyno tells you.

My recomendations would be :

1.A good set of tires and wheels. (BBS,Work Wheels,Racing Hart etc..._
2. A good LSD . (Kazz ,cusco,nismo etc..)
3. some really good sway bars (Suspension Techniques,SPL parts,etc..)
4.Either Ground Control Coil Overs with KYG Adjustable gas shock or even some Nismo Type-S coil overs ;)
5.Last but not least a good alignment job will do it and if those bushing of your car all wore out ,take a look at Energy Suspension bushing set ,they are really worth the bill :)

This of course setups would actually of course being budget minded .

Thanx. LSD is obviously on my list, but I'm starting out stock. So where to start, maybe with sway bars?

You get 10 points you said LSD first!

I never realized how important LSD would be in Auto-x. I just thought it was better for more drift only events. I guess that's why I'm here though, to learn!

junk yard the LSD... if your being cheap. Look for a 94? and up 240sx se with ABS. Should have the LSD. Correct me if i'm wrong about the year but i think thats right.

Wait the car is an auto. I know this affects drifting, but isn't autoX for "grip" driving?

ArticDragon 12-29-2004 12:35 PM

Yeah, LSD gives power to both wheels to you have more pushing you out of the turn.

rivneo1 12-29-2004 12:39 PM

Also when turning in in a curve the differential will tend to spin one tire faster then the other one ,usually the outside tire tend to do this.

So will I have any trouble with the car, being it's an auto?

I dont think it sould be any problems being that the car is an auto ,the all the parts mentioned above should still work the same way,its up to ur driving skills how the car is gonna drive ;)

I've got a set of enkei CDR-9's on the car now. So i will start saving up for an LSD now. I will most likely look for a stock VLSD somewhere. Then i will probably save up for the Tein Type-S(treet) or either their high line soon. (type-E?)I want to go try it out before i start spending big bux on it. I Would still run the 1/4 around here if I don't like the track, but I SERIOUSLY doubt I won't like it. :) thanx again for all your help guys!
