tie rods?

So i plan to change from stock tierods to tien tie rods. Both inner and outters. I hear alot of good thing about them. I was asking a guy at a garage about DIY on tie rods he kinda gave me what i felt was bogus answer. He said the tie rods require a special tool to take them off and put them on. I don't know too much, so i looked into it and found the tech forum on ********. It doesn't speak of any special tool but I'm not even sure if they did both inner and outters. Well what I'm asking is, is there a special tool that is required and if anyone can give me advices when i do this.

there are tools made specifically for removing the tie rod ends, but they are not needed. i always use a bottle jack and a hammer, just raise the tie rod a bit and hammer away.
