Wierd steering after meeting a curb...
 

Driving into work last wednesday, hit some ice and slid into a curb (huge blizzard here in CO) on my front driver wheel. Wheel didnt look bent or anything, I drove it home and steering seems to almost float left and right before it catches, and then it pulls hard to either side. Needless to say, it makes driving a bit difficult! Give me some input, by looking at othe posts i was thinking maybe tie rods/ ends?

Just took the wheel off and have it on a jack, but nothing looks bent...

have it checked by a shop, could be a tie/tension rod or a control arm..

sounds life your tire is out of alignment.

If it only happens at high speed, check for wheel being bent, or tire/wheel combination out of round/balance

If you get it at moderate speeds <40 or so, then it's most likely a tie rod, tie rod end, or tension rod


However, also check the lower control arm, and even the shock assembly

I know people that have hit curbs hard enough to push the shock assembly up through the mounting point!

well i got everything torn apart, nothing looks bent at all, thinking maybe the rack and pinion?

well, i'm just going to take into an alignment shop Monday and play dumb.....

If nothing looked out of shape then don't let them talk you into a bunch of parts that you don't need and out of a bunch of money that you do! Just get the alignment and see if that fixes your problem...could be that simple.

i did the same thing last week only i got pushed into a curb by a dick in a overly massive chevy truck.. between 60 and 75 my car bounces and shakes like i've never felt before in a car. took it all down and discovered my tierod end was stripped. replaced it along with my brake pads and it rides beautifully again. you should be able to tell just by looking at the tierod ends if they are gone. look at each end, near the tire and near the engine. be thankful you don't have a damn super hicas like me, changing front and rear tierods is a *****.:tear: anyone know where to get a hicas lock bar? :bigok:

Ahahaha! This litterally just happened to me! haha, I was driving to the computer lab at my college and I went from a stop sign to a curb in a matter of seconds. I have tein tension rods, nismo power brace, and tein tie rods (inner/outer) those things held up, but now my caster is way!!!!!!! out, nothing is bent, but It looks like I'll be getting an alignment soon. thinking about bringing my caster up with my tension rod adjstment, I sure hope i didnt mess up my rack. I have Hicas too, that would be a pain!!!!

man that sucks. hoppfully it didnt mess power steering up any.

Check all over for a bent frame too. That would be sad.
