Z32 Aluminum Calipers vs. Z32 Iron Calipers?

give me pros and cons guys. is the weight savings with the aluminum calipers worth the possibility of warping them, or should i go with the iron calipers?

its roughly 9 pounds saved at each corner. That is pretty dramatic.

i would think youd be ok using the alum's considering how much lighter a 240 is. really havent seen a ton about the alum ones warping on z's even.

It'd take a CRAP load of force to warp a caliper (since that's the aluminum part). If you're talking about warping a rotor, they use the same ones.

i thought i'd read somewhere that that's the reason nissan switched over to 30mm Iron calipers in all Z32 after the 1992.5, due to warping. i'm wondering if any of you guys who've done the S13 to Z32 front caliper upgrades have had any issues with this....i've asked an import mechanic/import specialist and he says that this is a possibility due to the 300zx weight....the reason i ask is i'm going to get these calipers @ a junkyard and rebuild them with new seals/springs/clips, but if they're warped, then i'm SOL.

no, the calipers wont warp, but aluminum has a much lower heat capacity than iron. what this means is, if u do a lot of sustained, hispeed braking (road racing, bonneville??) all that heat gets transferred to the rotors. there is were the warpage problems occurs w/ alu calipers. mind u, it prolly wont happen to most ppl. but there is the chance. the heavy iron ***** can hold the heat much better.

ps i have irons, but only b/c i am paranoif and roadamerica has some looong straights.

I am willing to bet the complaints came from people that ride there brakes in traffic and hit puddles. Nissan probably got tired of warranty replacements.

VW did the same thing with high performance tires on the GTI's...people demanded tires under the 24 or 36k mile warranties.
