Black intercoolers?

Where can I get a black intercooler? Or is it bad to paint a silver 1? I rather get it from somewhere.

A light mist of flat black wont hurt but dont go overboard.
If anything you want to get it anodized, not painted. Do a google search on painted intercoolers( or intercooler painting). I have( along with quite a few others on many forums) covered this to no end.
With a search you will find all the info you need & then some.

Radiator paint works also I read somewhere.

No it doesnt.
You are dealing with fluid vs water.
Flow vs pressure.

They do not operate the same.

K, thanks for clearing that out for me.

vbgambini Dec 6, 2004 08:16 PM

what do i do ? i know they sell one for the wrx. but where can i get a black intercooler?

Project Cheap13 Dec 7, 2004 06:19 AM

Buy one & get it anodized.
Or better yet. Explain WHY you want a black intercooler.

vbgambini Dec 7, 2004 06:31 AM

how much would it cost to get it anodized? i dont really want people to see it, thats all. hide it a little. dont really like the look of seeing i through the front, makes it look like a grill at times. i would much rather have it black.

Project Cheap13 Dec 7, 2004 06:38 AM

Here is a thought for you.. I'm sure you have seen the mesh grills that vendors sell for for hole openings( like for fog lights & such). Well most places like home depot sell that same stuff in bulk. Most of the time in MANY different colors. But mostly brown & BLACK.All it is, is the screen door protector.
Why not, instead of painting your intercooler, buy some of that & place it over the opening?
It is MUCH cheaper, you cant see it & you dont have to worry about the efficiency of your intercooler.
I have done it to MANY vehicles & it look squite trick.
You may want to give that a try first.
Just thought I would throw that out there for you.

Thats not a bad dea. Will i see any of the intercooler? But how much would it be thouh to get it anodized? an where woul i have to take it? But hat grill thing sounds good.

ArticDragon Dec 7, 2004 04:55 PM

You just need the front side painted man.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. Both radiators and intercoolers operate on the principle of heat transfer from hot masses (air or water) to cooler masses (outside air passing over rad/FMIC). Furthermore, flow versus pressure makes even less sense; both ICs and rads are under some pressure and have mass flow through them.

Painting the front of the IC with radiator paint will make no difference. In fact, it's better than regular spray paint because it's probably been engineered not to hinder heat transfer
