Wheel sizing
 

so i ordered some new wheels, and need to pick out size and offset still...i have a s13 coupe, and want to go somewhat big, like 17x9 front and 17x10 rear...question is, does anyone run a 17x10 rear? what offset do you have and what did you have to do to get it to fit? any suggestions on offsets/sizing would be good, but i dont want to **** with rolling/pulling too much since the car was just painted, but i will roll a bit if i need to... here are the wheels with the available sizes:

don't listen to what everyone else is going to reccomend. the offsets i gave you are safe and should not require the major modification (maybe just a lil roll)

"without major modification" is cool and all, but if i am going to drop $600 each on wheels, i want a stance that looks aggressive.

now its easy to assume what you are looking for, but to help you we need to understand what you are looking for.

overs or stock body?

how low are you?

RUCAs? (and if so, how much camber do you want to run)?

the purpose of your car?

the purpose of my car is going to be roadrace/auto-x, i have rucas, and I am really considering overfenders at this point. stock body right now, but want to run some 305 tires on the rears. i think i am just going to have to deal with the fact that it will take some modification. height wise, i have some jic flt-a2 coilovers, so height can be adjusted.

you know what, im gonna have to agree with spencer on this.

that seems like a decent wheel sizing for pure performance application.

especially to fit wide tires, the only concern is coilover to wheel clearance with wide tires.

man I don't get what any of you guys are saying. anybody wanna fill me in?(yes i am a newb).i don't know nothin about wheel info and im trying to build a drift car.

Offset: The amount the mounting base is from the Center of the wheel width wise

i.e. +26 offset would put the hub more towards the street side of the rim an -5 Offset would be more towards car side of the center.

now because you can only go so wide before you hit something, your gonna have to measure the clearance between the wheel and the coilover to make sure when compression takes place your not jamming the rim into your springs or perches.

May I ask why so wide a tire? how much power R u making, you might just be adding weight for no purpose, I think you could get away w/ an 9+20 A.A. w/ 235/40 front and 245/40 rear. I mean 245's hold my friends 400whp just fine in the corners.

i agree. to me a 305 would look really big on an s13. the largest i like is 275. but also, unless you have a monster motor, that tire/wheel package doesnt seem necessary or practical to me

Agree'd, it could even possibly reduce your performance by not using the tire to it's full potential adding un-wanted/used weight.

You certainly can do this, but how wide a tire you run, camber specs, and how low you go are going to determine the level of modification you will need to do to the fenders. At very least you will need to roll, and probably roll flat. Since this would crack the paint, the best way to do it is sand/grind of the paint right at the edge of the lip and then tape off and touch up after done.

If you don't drop it completely, added a little negative camber, and run a stretch tire, you could get away with less.
