2nd Battery for Systems

As per Malice's Request Again: Here is how to hook up a 2nd battery in a car.

You will need a battery islolator, 0 gauge wire and a second battery.

You will need to hook up the alternator to the isolator, then the one positive to the starting battery and the second to the battery in the trunk.

Cost
isolator=60
0 gauge (18')=120.00
2nd Battery (Optima)=160.00
Terminals and miscellaneous parts=40
Total about $380

And that's it, very simple.

import saves the day once again.... why is the battery 160 ? isnt that alot... does it have more power etc... ? when i got my battery i got it for like 75.... and i thought i was over paying...

Well you will need a acid free battery, one that's gel filled for a system. It doesn't leak and doesn't rust/corrode like a normal acid battery. YOu also need that type of battery for a system, because it is deep cycle and has more amps than a regular battery.

well you can do it in series like that, i misspoke, good thing to have guys like you around :D

But, we 240s like to carry the battery in the trunk for the reason of weight distribution, thats why I gave that option for the 240 owners. The srswap, needs the front battery to be slim or not there. So that's why I did it the isolator way.

But thanks for the advice ;)

whats an isolator

Import Fanatix Oct 5, 2002 07:27 PM

isolator is basically something that you put in the engine compartment that divides the alternator charge between both the batteries.

spitz7985 Oct 5, 2002 07:34 PM

i really know nothing about electronics. o, well that's what you guys are here for right?:p

doua Oct 22, 2002 02:43 PM

are you guy just add two battery for more power to the system(audio) or for the car. What can they very do. Dos it help out.

Import Fanatix Oct 22, 2002 03:54 PM

Well 1 battery takes care of the car electronics and the other is just for the system. This way you don't drain the battery that starts the car.
