audio help for my s13
well i recently removed the speakers from the front and the rear from my 90 s13 because the paper was falling apart. my question is, are all 4x6 speakers the same? i mean when i buy 4x6 speakers is it just plug and play for my s13? i just want music in this car, so i dont really care for any name brands. just some decent speakers thatll run with the stock wiring? thanks

please for the love of god, don't "twist and tape" . go to walmart or any auto parts store, and get yourself a few connectors to crimp the wires together. and if you don't want to cut your factory plug off, or cut any wires....go to best buy or any good car audio place and get a pair of speaker harnesses for it.

carbon builds up between the speaker wires when you twist and tape and you end up loosing signal from the head unit or the amp... it can lead to bad sound quality or no sound comming from the speaker... it costs at most 20 bucks for a set of crimpers and some crimp connectors... it beats having to take the door apart again to fix what should have been done right the first time... why hack something on your car at all...

do like i do, use solder and heat shrink tubing... very professional looking.
ALSO NOTE: if your 240 is like mine, and came from the factory with the active speaker stereo system, you will need to remove the factory amps or buy 4x6" plate speakers (which i dont think are worth a damn). if you decide to remove the factory amp, do like i did and make a new piece to mount the speaker on, so you can put a 6.5" speaker in there. it sounds much better.

Well, I don't know about going to Circuit City for crimp connectors. Circuit City doesn't use crimp connectors. You figure that exposed copper wire is the weakest link in your chain...like Wikd said, carbon builds up between the wires. Thats why Circuit City uses smart harnesses as opposed to crimp connectors when they install radios. That, and it's easier to swap out than having to re-crimp wires if you decide to switch radios later.
As far as speaker wires go, soldering would probably give you a more solid line, as long as you tape over it very well. Like Phantom said, you can use heat shrink tubing too.
