when i bought 6x9's for the front of my 92 s13 hatch it didnt fit because it kept hitting the window. from what i was told it is possible but you have to make your own bracket etc not sure if its the exact same in a coupe..

If im not mistaken, you can go 2½" without hitting the window, You can either 1)ditch the speakers, or 2)ask me and ill write you a how to on how to make mounts for your speakers to fit right in and have a clean look.

You can make a new mounting plate and remove the box in there. I did something similar a while back. Let me find my old thread...

hope that can give you some ideas.

By way of the front plates, if you're feeling lazy, you can buy them from this company:

(I don't work for them or anything, just stoked to see a pre-made version of these plates)
