Got it out, wrong replacement

Got radio out with y'alls good advice. My replacement radio which I think came from the same year but the connections were different. While I was fooling with the original, I detected low volume out of the rear speakers, none out of the front. Does this indicate that the radio has a problem or the speakers? Any thoughts and or diagnostic methods will be appreciated.

check to make sure that the positives are with the positives and negativges with the negatives. it sounds lame but that could make it do that. also, make sure the your ground wire is good from the car side of the wireing harness. i had to ground my head unit the the metal under the gear shifter bezel. just check and recheck your wiring work.

if you got an extra set of speakers that are known to work, try wiring them direct to the head unit first. if you have to turn up the volume all the way just to hear faint sounds, then possibly the head unit you got required some form of outboard amplifier to produce the sounds - this is how it is with the S14's, I'm not sure about S13's.

If the sound comes out fine, then it's most likely the in-car wiring

thanks guys, I'll check out these suggestions tomorrow, it is the original radio, and it appears that all the connections at the back of the radio have not been modified.

Also check to make sure you are getting power from your radio to the speaker wires right out the radio. If you are then pull the speakers and check to see if they are getting power. If they are not then most likely your capasitors have gone bad. All four went bad at the same time on my S-13. I did a write up on how to bypass the capasitor if you dont want to buy new ones. Here is the link:

Also one other thing to add when your checking everything. When you pull the radio out more than likely it wont come on because it has got to be grounded to the car. So just connect a wire from a ground point and then to the reciever. Man this one really had me worried I F'ed something up. But just to save you some headache. Good luck.
