Radar detector

My father just gave me his Whistler radar detector and it works fine in his car. I went to go put it into my car and the way it is wired is to an A/C adaptor that you can plug into the cigarette lighter. I plug it into there and i can get no power. I checked the fuses and the lighter heats up when i plug it in but the radar detector does not work. Does anybody know why it is doing this and if not an alternative way to wire the radar detector?

Is the power converter working? Are you sure that the fuse at the end of it is getting power? Try there first. Second, why does a car radar detector have an AC plug? That's rather strange, I can't imagine why youd need it in your house. You should keep your house off of wheels.

Is your car on? If I'm not mistaken the cig only gets power when the car's on ACC or ON.

Ya i ran my car today and while i was driving my friend was playing with it trying to get it to work but nothing happened. I looked in the cig lighter and it was all rusty in the inside of it. Should i get a new cig lighter and try that or is there anything else that i can do.

Cable on the adapter might be shot, if you have another adapter that fits into the radar dector try it.
Unless there is a reason the radar dector shouldn't be working its the cable, which figures becouse thats usally what goes first.

on the thing you plug into the lighter (AC adapter thing), you should be able to unskrew the end and there is sometimes a fuse in there, that might be blow. Not sure if ur will have one but its worth a look.
