Fastback does have 4x6 all around. You can mount bigger speakers up front using a method posted on here, and I custom mounted my rear speakers in the hatch lid thing:

yeah that couldnt be more true. Usually the more expensive ones do sound better, but you have to buy bigger amps to power them. And yes some do handle different tones differently. For instance, i had a bazooka EL series 10" in a slotted vent box in my trunk, and it rocked on just a 300w amp, but when it blew (long story of how that happened) i replaced it with an audiobahn. The audiobahn is a totally different speaker, it doesnt hit as hard, and doesnt like low bass, its more of a midrange bass. I would say of all the subs ive heard i would get Alpine type R or X, JL audio's, bazooka(EL series not p miller or that other cheap one), or kenwood.

In my s13 coupe I got 6.5 Inifinity Kappa Components in front and 6x9 Inifinity Kappas in the rear. If you like SQ, I recommend these.

i like the BS some people say: "i heard that 240s sound great with just front speakers, so i didn't install any in the rear". that was from someone retarded obviously. rears add a lot!

i have the 6 3/4 infinity kappa in rear, and polk db6750 components in the front. sound sweeet. but i think i mentioned it earlier...

If you're running good front components, a large amp, and a good sub, you relly don't need rear speakers. They don't help sound quality or imaging. If you're running deck power on some entry level speakers, then you'll probably want rears.

Good 4x6's are a very big part of a stereo. I bought some memphis audio 4x6's and they sound great, they really get the job done with the alpine type s 6.5"s in the door. Im gonna get a 200w amp to help out the 4 interior speakers so my subs dont overwhelm them. Im transferring my stereo from my acura legend to my 240 when i start driving it. The subs in my legend are groundshaking sometimes, even on the inside. Now you have to understand, theres about an inch of sound dampening material between the trunk and the rear seats. Then, the soun has to travel THROUGH the seats. So needless to say, ill have to turn the power down on my amp. Im running an alpine mrv-t757 2 channel amp. I think its 100wx2 channels @4 ohms. It sounds a lot louder than that. It pushes 200w@ 2 ohms x 2 channels. My memphis 12's im about to buy are gonna rock that amp!

having the tweeters in components will be the only reason you won't NEED rears (if you want it to sound good). other than that, with no tweeters and just door speakers, you're losing a LOT. i had my kappas up front until i got the components. with the kappas my legs would absorb/block the sound, and if i had a passenger, that sound is being blocked.

so yeah, if you don't want full sound in your car, you wouldn't need rears.
