stainless steel box for sub?

I have access to a sheet-metal shop, and I have the ability to make the stuff... I'm just curious if you think a box made for a sub would sound bad... possibly vibrate too much or something... also, I was wondering if you could think of anything else I should/could make for the car.

i think you'd still need to frame it. most likely in mdf. so... sheet metal would add weight, but it'd be an interesting finish.

sheet metal speakerbox would resonate too much and mess up the sound, plus it's not solid enough like MDF so the enclosure will "stretch" and your speakers won't be efficient.

BUT - there's other stuff you can do with sheet metal - first suggestion - make an enclosed intake box, to seperate the hot air from cold air for your intake filter. Second idea - radiator cooling plate.

Man if you were local I'd spec the project out with measurements and design diagrams in exchange for a set in return

i do agree with the metal box resonating and flexing way too much... iif you want to have the sheet metal look then i would suggest to build the box with mdf and then cover that with the sheet metal... it would have to be a tight fit and i would still suggest covering the box with carpet to take up any extra space between the real mdf box and the sheet metal skin...a brushed aluminum finish would look pretty kick *** imo... so long as things like amp racks would be made with the same type of "skin"...

ya... thats what I was thinking when someone told me about the idea.

What does a radiator cooling plate do, and where does it go.. I saw one earlier, but I wasn't sure what it did, exactly... obviously, it helps keep the radiator cool, but other than that..

It just creates a "ceiling" above the front grille, so that all the cooling air going through the grill goes directly to the radiator, instead of some air passing above the radiator support. It's like a 'vent' sorta. Or is it vane?
