understandment of AMPS
alright i was thinking of getting two 10 inch kicker L5 subs and they both put out 1200 watts each now im stuck with what amp and how much watts of a amp do i need need help on this badly thanks

first off the speakers dont put out the watts... the 1200 wats is what is called peak power handeling... they can handel 1200 wats of pure power on a limited basis... the number you want to look at is the rms power or continous power rating... this number will tell you how much power the speaker can handle on a constant basis...
the second thing you have too look out for are the cheap amps that say they will put out hugfe amounts of power... case in point say a lightning audio bolt amp says it puts out 1200 wats of power... chances are this is an ils rating (if lightning strikes) a good rule of thumb is one dollar per watt of clean power... if you are looking for an amp... get a quality mono block or single channel digital amp... companits like kicker jl rockford all make quality pieces... if you can find an older orion hcca amp... like an hcca250 you are set... but it has to be an old one... the new ones are made by dei and their audio stuff has gone to crap...

personally, i cannot recommend kicker. nice subs? i guess, my bro got a used 12" L5, one of the speaker posts had a disconnected wire (the wire from the speaker post to the magnet/coil). pain in the *** time to solder, and then another breaks.
he also had a NEW 10" L7 that did the exact same thing. he wasn;t pushing a lot of power through it (maybe 500W?)
so, from experience i have only seen 1 out of 3 work. reading online seems like a lot of other people have the same problem.
but good luck! they probably sound pretty good for have more surface area and all that.

if you want a good amp thats reasonably priced go with a kicker amp. expect to spend about 300-500. kicker subs r a little sketchy tho. keep in mind that unless you are an audiophile and MUST have PERFECT sound and are planning to spend hours and hours aiming your speakers, tuning them right, bla bla bla you dont really need expensive top end products to get a nice sounding system.
