Anybody here know how I can get involved in drag racing, I just came back from one the NHRA sport compact series races and it was off the chain. I like to get more involved any tips?

 

Most drag strips have test n tune nights where they open the track up to any car that can pass tech. This is by far the best way to get started. Then you can move on to some small-time bracket racing and other similar things.

I guess its not that hard to get involved in drag racing, all you need is to attend the NHRA Sport Compact event at Moroso, and make at least one legitimate qualifying attempt at the Moroso event. Qualifying attempt is defined as staging under power, and taking the start signal. The problem begins with coming up with the cash to build a good engine. I guess I’ll stick to small racing. Anybody going to the Moroso Motorsports Park in W. Palm Beach, Fla. On Aug. 20 – 21.

 

what will a stock s14 with a sr20det run in the 1/4 mile?

 

My friend laid down a 13 something with an SR(s13) in his 89 hatch at 8psi and boost leak. The fastback weight is about 26XX the s14 is a lil heavier so I guess u can guage it off of that.

ps it also depends which SR u have,( s13/14/15)

 

Most people get started in drag racing by taking their street car to the track for a bracket racing event. Bracket racing is a "handicapped" form of drag racing where you estimate how many seconds it will take for you to cover the quarter mile, and your opponent does the same for his car. The starting lights are offset by whatever the difference in your "dial-in" (the estimated elapsed time) is, so if you both guess exactly right, you'll both cross the finish line at the same time. If you run faster than your dial, you "break out" and lose the race.

Bracket racing allows cars with wildly different performance to race each other fairly, with only driver skill and consistency to determine who wins.
