yea i had a discussion with dave about the HIN demo
i knew alot of the guys who drove in the event and they are good guys.. however it pissed me off when i read the entry req.. you had to have at least 4 or 5 exterior mods to include baller wheels,, body kit etc..
if you ask me it sent the wrong messege to people.
meh whatever.

Are you serious they say the car has to be riced out? Man as if it couldnt get any gayer... body kit and big rims are for the big companies, real drifters show up with a stock body... or lack there of due to unforseeable "incidents" with inanimate objects like... pot holes, guard rails, curbs, trees, walls, the list goes on...
I guess thats what you get at a ricer event.

True, but it's not all primer, dents and zipties, I guess they figure someone with skill plus a nice car is more appealing to the audience who has no idea . . .
You figure that 8 out of 10 people who have even heard of drifting only know of it because of what they see on TV and in movies, it only makes sense that event coordinators want to portray that somewhat. I think the reason they want nicer cars is because it symbolizes what the unknowing public is used to.
If the gen pub got out there, saw a bunch of primer grey cars, dents, zipties, duct tape and stock-wheel rockers *raises hand* then yeah, they'll be seeing what it's all about at the grassroots level, but they'll most likely just keep walking or will feel that it's "not well put together". The guys at HIN were probably thinking, lets wow the audience with cars that not only slide well but look as good doing it.
That's just a thought though, I could be WAY off base.

Well, those shows are about generating $. And the best way to get it done, is do what you said, get cars lookin flashy and find good drivers.
I wish the general public understood and appreciated grassroots.

But they never will, one thing I learned is that only grassroots and real racers understand the trials of other grassroots and real racers.
I'm not saying that I'm a real racer by any means, but I am saying that I'm definitely grassroots. I learned that little gem of knowledge from Grassroots Motorsports Magazine and it's forum of very dedicated, knowledgeable and skillful drivers . . .

Uhmm hmm... i understood completely what they were trying to do stigger and you were 110% correct.. however.. they should have allowed one stock looking car in.. i think that would have got that guy into it who probably left thinking "man thats way to much money to be invloved in"
theoratically he is somewhat correct.. even the primer, ziptie, 0 money in the bank account guys still put out decent money to slide and repair.
