auto to manual tranny swap

Hey everyone, I'm new (just thought I'd throw that out). I've been contemplating on a 1995-1998 240sx. I'm almost certain this car is for me but my future plans is to do the SR20DET swap. I've been looking at used 240sx on autotrader.com and ebaymotors.com but most of the 240sx' out there have automatic transmissions.

Do you think it makes a difference on auto or manual tranny if I'm going to do the SR20DET swap. I hear if you buy off of srswap.com it comes with the tranny so I'm assuming I will be able to get it in manual. Or would it be best to look for a 240sx with an manual transmission. manual is a must for me but dont mind dealing with an automatic first if the tranny swap is simple. Any suggestions??

First off welcome to the forums, If you dont mind doing a few extra things while doing the swap then buy a autp 240. If you want a lil easier swap then go for the 5spd 240. I personally went with a auto car and my front clip had almost everything i need so it wasnt to hard. Auto to manual swap isnt hard at all..just takes time.

Thanks HyJynX. What exactly are the extra things you are talking about? I will not be doing the swap myself but will try to have a local shop to the swap for me. When I order the engine can I specify that I want it to come with a manual tranny?

Also what is a front clip? Sorry I'm not that mechanically inclined so I apoligize in advance for these newbie questions.

The extra things you will need is the actual manual driveshaft, A master clutch cylinder, the pressure line that hooks up to the master and slave cylinder and possibly the shift boot. All the other parts can be taking from the Front clip, a front clip is the front end of the car..it includes evrything ALMOST everything needed for the engine swap and ALMOST everything needed for the auto to manual. DONT, i repeat DONT but a motor set..you will be kicking ur self when u need all the extra lil parts. JDM engines usually come in manual...almost never in auto. just make sure its manual before u buy it. a good site for a lil more info is srswap.com

I was checking out the engines on srswap.com. It says that it includes all electronics and ignition parts, uncut harness, transmission, warranty and tech support. Do you know if this includes everything mentioned above. I'm assuming it does since it comes with the transmission.

Moved to drivetrain, dont know why I didnt before.

Anywho I belive the trans and driveshaft will fit in right, but Not sure about the ECU. ECUs are different from 89 to 91. So you might have to buy a 91-94 manual ECU. And Im not 100% sure on the lines.
