clutch or differential?

I just bought a 92 240sx a couple days ago. When I first bought it, it shifted fine and seemed to drive absolutely fine. Now when I am letting the clutch out for 1st or reverse the back end vibrates and shudders badly. I have had this problem before in a Chrysler Conquest(mitsu starion), and it ended up being the clutch was warn completely out and also one of the springs on it had broken. Anybody have any ideas? Clutch problems or differential problems?

Another problem it's giving me is when I am driving it fast, if I shift it fast into any gear it makes a split second girk/grind going into that gear. It mostly does it going into 4th... that ones the worst by far. But if I take my time shifting it won't do that at all. Also clutch problem?

Any help would be great thanks!

Grinding could be cause of worn snychros...use redline mt90 and it'll help that problem a lot...old car and you don't know how the previous owner drove it...good idea to replace clutch and run the redline fluid to keep it strong.

I used to think it was hard to destroy a clutch if you had any idea of how to drive a stick....then a friend burned a clutch in 1500 miles on a new cobalt....just keep in mind not everyone's a stick driver....

yeah, if it shudders, tear that tranny off and inspect the clutch... i had a 1990 acura legend i drove real hard, and the clutch started to go out, and the pedal became erratic, sometimes staying very close to the floor and requiring minimal travel to disengage, and sometimes it would be at normal height and want to slip. When i pulled the clutch off, the hub had a broken spring which made it chatter, the disc was worn but not dead, and the pressure plate was worn as hell. Broken springs are a *****.
