clutch pedal sticks to the floor

what would make the clutch pedal stay down to the floor and not return up??

i thought it might be the slave cylinder, but im not a mechanic.

are these cars hydraulic or cable??? i was thinking it might be the clutch cable??? throw out bearing????

help me out here, thanks

Could be your clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder. Check both to see if they are leaking.

Master, slave, try bleeding first

cheryred240 02-02-2007 06:36 AM

clutch on floor

well the system is hydro , not cable . the clutch master is your likely cause but as a good rule of thumb i would replace both the master and the slave . thats what we recommend at the shop when we do them. sometimes replacing the master stirs up trash in the lines and can cause the slave to go out . if you replace both make sure you blow out your line to get the trash out of it .

Ok, I'm having the same problem and am willing to accept it's the master / slave cylinder.

My question is this: is it hard to replace those? I'm going to the auto parts store tomorrow to pick up both (because cheryred suggested replacing both could save potential headaches) and also a Chilton's. I'm not horribly mechanical but am no idjit by any means. Anything I should look out for or be sure to pick up while I'm there to save myself some headaches?

thanks!

if you haven't bled it already you should do that first. but no replacing both slave and master cylinder are not hard. if you do replace both cylinders it would be a good time to first drain line then replace them and refile with new fluid. lastly be sure to bleed the line at the slave cylinder.

greed77 02-21-2008 06:22 PM

Wait, brakes? Are the clutch hydrolics tied into the brakes?

jramosthe1st! 02-21-2008 06:25 PM

no my bad i stated typing that then stopped for a few min and forgot what i was typing. my bad.

greed77 02-21-2008 06:49 PM

Lol, it's all good. It's still easy? Drain the line, install new cylinders, refill lines, bleed at slave? That's it? Sounds WAY too easy. :P

acfalconhawk 02-21-2008 07:56 PM

don't forget the clutch dampener if you haven't already taken that out.

greed77 02-22-2008 03:52 AM

I haven't started yet... is the dampener something I should replace, too? Or is it just something that'll have to come out to make the happen?
