gear oil ahhh

im going to be changing my manual transmission fluid on saturday at my friends shop. theres a lift there so i figured when it was on the lift to change the dif oil too...i read one post and hyjnx said to use different oil...what oil is suggested for a stock VLSD dif, i read in one post there was a different dif oil that helped lsd's?

one post a few people suggested redline MT oil....one guy said he was going to use MTL....but MTL is 70w80 as listed below \/

for the manual trans...
This 70W80 GL-4 Gear Oil (SAE 5W30/10W30 engine oil viscosity) is designed for use in manual transmissions and transaxles.

is that the right weight? the fsm says 75w90 then again 80w90...so im kinda confused about the whole thing

basically im looking for the best MT oil and best oil for the VLSD. any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

whatever you decide dont put synthetic (gl5) in the tranny wears out the synchros. only use synthetic in the diff.

Syn. gear oil does NOT harm your synchros, it's oils that have GL5 additives that wear out syncros. Just make sure the oil you get uses GL4 and not 5 and your set. As for what kind, either 75w90 or 80w90 will do. Run MT90 in both and you should be happy

Mobil 1 is GL5, so let's hope it doesn't mess with your tranny

DAMMIT, should i return it? its not in yet...i thought someone said [possibly you, but i guess not] that it was only oils with gl-5 additives that harm your engine

Your trans, not engine. Check the bottle to see if it says if it's GL-5 or 4...if it's 5 then return it, if not then keep it.

Oh oh! GL5 oil, from Mobile one synthetic, went into my tranny not to long ago. What should I do? Drain it then pour GL4? Or it's ****ed? I've been having a lot of drive-tain problems for a while now, before I added the Gear Oil. I changed the clutch, but it still is messing up. What happens is that when the car is faily cold it grips good, I shift into 2nd fast and the gear kicks in fine. But when it warms up I shift to 2nd and it feels like it lags, it takes like a second for the gear to kick in, I feel it pick up after a while, when I shift to 3rd it shifts fine. Also, my 3rd gear has beggan to grind lately when I shift at a higher RPM. AND, as if it wasn't enough, sometimes the gear won't want to to into reverse. I have to switch it between the gears for it to go. AND sometimes when I put it in reverse I hear a buzzing sound, pretty loud, coming from the underbody. It'll stop if I switch the gear. I don't know WTF is going on, the clutch has been swithed, it's an ACT and it grips hard.. I don't know what it is. When I have the car stoped and I let go of the clutch is SHOULD beggin to creep very slowly until the cars picks up speed and won't die. But mine doesn't do that. I beggin to let go of the clutch and the car beggins to creep, but it's not smooth, it feels like if the car is chocking until the car moves a bit faster. My engine mounts are good, I don't know WTF it is! A hella huge post, but I don't know. Gona see if my friend's dad can help me out. =<

Take it out as soon as you can. KA trannys only take GL4 and thats it. Not 100% sure, but it could be the fluid that is making it do that. It will make it a little hard/notchy to get into gear.

the whirring noise you hear when going in reverse is from your reverse gear being straight cut instead of helical. it sounds like all cars in reverse

You won't find redline in local stores. Online is the only way for most people.
